Default Another dry embossing question

I decided tonight I would make a snowflake card using Bashful Blue cardstock, but I can't see through even with my light box. How are people embossing on colored cardstock? I've seen many cards done on colored cs, but can't figure it out. Anyone help me?

I'm trying to understand dry embossing as well. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks

You can actually do it without seeing. You literally have to feel your way through. Your other choice is to sand the paper over the template. That can be a nice look. There are other dark papers, non-SU, that are made to work. Lasting Impressions makes great paper for this. Good luck. Gay Howe

Do you mean with the sanding blocks, or just regular fine sandpaper. I'll have to try that. Thanks

I do a lot of dry embossing and do not own a lightbox. Like this...
1) tape the brass stencil onto the back (cardboard) side of a steno pad.
2) tape the cardstock over the stencil.
3) with fingers, press down a little to feel a beginning spot.
4) with round tip embossing tool, "find" your way to the end.

I love dry embossing, although I don't do it enough ( I go through "spurts" of dry embossing and then neglect my brass templates for months).

Anyway, whenever I dry emboss on colored CS, I use my light table in a dark room. I've tried to go by feel, but I always end up with stray marks...

Hope it helps - and my last word of advice on dry embossing is to use wax paper in between your card stock and the stylus. It's easier to rub the image and I feel like it comes out much smoother. ;)

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! Just tried the embossing on blue in a dark room and it was great. Now my problem with that is I guess that is not a good idea for Stamp a stack, but at least I can do it myself and not be so frustrated.....thanks again!! You gals always come through for me.
