Default altoid tins?

Hi everyone -
I've been looking at the altoid tins in the gallery. Since my family are Altoid addicts, this would be a perfect use for the left-over tins. NOW I wish I had hoarded them!!
My question is this ... many of them say to paint the tin ... what kind of paint do you use that will adher to the tin. Do you sand the tin first to get the paint to adher?
Thanks for any and all help!

I prefer to sand first to give the metal some 'tooth', allowing the paint to adhere somewhat better.

Here is an awesome link with more info - hope it helps.

I would like to know this too...I saw the altoid tin that was done at convention and want to make a 'brag tin' instead of brag book for my MIL, whose 11th grandchild was just born yesterday!!!! YAY!

thanks in advance!

I've been spray painting mine with metallic spray paint (copper mostly) with no sanding or prep. Has worked fine. Soemtimes I don't paint them at all.

I am going to try and burn off the paint from the mnfr. like in the link above - using a torch from Wal-Mart. Next week's project!

thanks to all who shared info -- I appreciate it. That link was terrific! I am such a visual learning, it really helps to have pictures. And I just might get a torch -- looks like fun and it would make my husband nuts LOL!
