Hello and Welcome to another TLC Challenge. I can't believe it's our #1001 challenge!! Wow, what a milestone!
The challenge we will be trying out this week is called: Blackout Embossing
I first saw this technique on our own Lydia's blog and was immediately fascinated at the dramatic results created so easily. I am linking up her video to help you out if needed.
Basically you need an embossing folder; the 3D ones give a sharper emboss but I've tried some of my older regular folders and had success with them.
The trick is to use the DEBOSSED side for inking.
So, here are the steps.
1. Emboss your cardstock, turn it onto the DEBOSSED side and add ink. At this point, you don't have to be precise with your inking as you will be covering it up with black.
2. When you are happy with the inking, take a black stamp pad or try a dark colour, hold it flat against your embossing and rub until the whole panel is covered with ink. The black will only be on the raised areas so don't push down too hard with your ink pad.
3. Finish off your card with embellishments of a sentiment.
Remember to use the keyword TLC1001 when you are uploading. It's helpful if you come back and leave a link on this thread, especially in case you made a typo and people may not find your card.
If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how: 1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread. 2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link. 3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on) 4. Click EDIT. Click COPY 5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE
Serendipitously, I just completed a card with this technique, so I've added the keyword to my previous upload. I'm not crazy about my rendition of the technique but I realise it's because I don't have the right sort of embossing folder.
Thank you for sharing this fun technique, I didn't try this one yet so even if I didn't have a lot of choice in embossing folders and I've got only tiny black ink pads, it worked great
I saw the tutorial by Lydia some weeks ago and it was a quickie challenge on another group so here is my card to share for this technique. Floral Nightingale
