WELCOME TO TEAPOT TUESDAY THE SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING TEAPARTY & CHALLENGE #205
Note: Anyone is welcome to play! You automatically become a Teapotter the first time you play in our challenge. Also, you do not have to write a story. You just have to be inspired by the teapot or by the story about this week's location! Have fun! If this is your first Teapot Tuesday Challenge, please mention that in your commentary so we can be sure to greet you properly, in pure Teapot Tuesday fashion! Your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not at all required. Just have fun!
This is my story! MMTPT205 for July 3, 2012 This week, the teapotters are boarding buses and heading to the baseball stadium (or are they?).
Take us out to the Ball Game? No chaw. No Spitting. No scratching. No trash talking.
OK Teapotters line up and lets form 3 groups.
Group number 1 is heading to NY on Bus #42,000 to see the Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees. Since 1919, whenever The Bronx Bombers and the Monsters of Fenway play, the fans always have something to say. Dating back to the Babes contract being sold causing "The Curse of The Bambino" to take hold. Take me out to the ball game i, Gee Im glad we came. Take me out with the crowd. Boy those BoSox fans sure can get loud! Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack, Hey I really could use a snack. I don't care if I never get back, here in the Bronx they really talk smack. Let me root, root, root for the home team, .06 cents change from a $10. for one hot dog made me scream! If they don't win it's a shame. For its 1, 2, 3 strikes, you're out, at the old ball game.
Group #2 is heading to the Windy City on Bus #40,220 to see the Chicago Cubs-Chicago White Sox. The Outlook wasn't brilliant for the Mudville nine that day ii The score stood 4 to 2, with but one inning more to play. Id like a Victory Knot pretzel, served in a pizza box, to celebrate that third home run just scored by the Sox. Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell; It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell; Gee this chipotle cheese spread tastes swell That pretzel costs $15.95, here at the Cell. The Crosstown Cup is still in contention Oops! Thats something I guess I shouldnt mention. Next time well surely plan on tailgating Prices charged here for snacks are so aggravating.
Group # 3 is heading to Pennsylvania on Bus #41,202. If a seventh inning stretch would cause you to kvetch. If Americas pastime is not your cup of tea, then please line up behind me. Classes are on Summer break so were headed for Penn States campus, where theyre hosting an event dedicated to all things rubberstamping and inky. Therell be make and takes, demos, tea, cookies and rubber stamps for us; Oh, and please dont forget that when sipping your teacup to raise your pinky. This show is sure to please and dont worry about the fees, Ive booked us a group rate because Ive got lots I plan on buying. Once were through the gate, were sure to pass the Nittany Lion iii
Challenge Translation: Bring anything that has to do with baseball, peanuts & cracker jacks, Penn State, pinstripes, the Nittany Lion, pumas and mountain lions.
DESTINATION STATION: Our destination this week is Stamford, Connecticut. If you would like a destination for your card this week, how about sending it to Officer Troy Strauser of the City of Stamford, Police Department. Officer Strauser was critically injured after falling more than twenty feet from a bridge abutment during a foot pursuit of a robbery suspect. He landed on a guardrail and ended up face down on the pavement after the fall. He underwent 3 surgeries in less than 18 hours & spent seven days in the ICU.
For more information and to get the address to mail your card to, please visit Post #303 in the Teapot Tuesday Destination Station thread. Please remember that just because you participate in a Teapot Tuesday challenge that is combined with a card drive request, it does not mean that you are REQUIRED to send your cards. It is totally 100% voluntary!
Please note: It is still not certain whether Officer Strauser will ever be able to return to the force, so please keep that in mind when you write notes on the inside of the card. Thank you.
[i] Take Me Out to the Ball Game 1927 Version by: Jack Norworth Composer: Albert Von Tilzer
[ii] Casey at the Bat by Ernest Lawrence Thayer
[iii] The Nittany Lion is Penn States mascot. At a baseball game against Princeton in 1904, Mason and other members of Penn States team were shown a statue of Princeton's famous Bengal tiger as an indication of the merciless treatment they could expect to encounter on the field. Since Penn State lacked a mascot, Mason replied with an instant fabrication of the Nittany Lion, "fiercest beast of them all," who could overcome even the tiger. Penn State went on to defeat Princeton that day. Over the next few years, Mason's "Nittany Lion" won such widespread support among students, alumni, and fans that there was never any official vote on its adoption.
The Nittany Lion is essentially an ordinary mountain lion (also known as a cougar, puma, or panther), a creature that roamed central Pennsylvania until the 1880s (although unconfirmed sightings continued long after that time). By attaching the prefix "Nittany" to this beast, Mason gave Penn State a unique
symbol that no other college or university could claim.
Ever want to get a jump on next week's challenge card? SCS has given Mudder permission to create an email Teapot Tuesday Cheater Group and email the challenge out on the Saturday before the Tuesday of the challenge so you girls can have the weekend to make your card. Send Mudder a pm with your email address if you wanna be a Cheater!
If you are confused about these challenges, see the first sticky post of this thread for more information. There is also a directory of individual challenges.

Thank you all for making cards for Officer Strauser. When I heard the news reports of his story, my blood ran cold and I got goosebumps. I had a lot of cousins who were in the NYPD so this really affected me. When I called the Chief of Police to inquire about whether or not we could make Officer Strauser a Destination. He said, "the scene was gruesome. I don't care if he comes back to work, I just hope he lives." Bless all of you for helping Officer Strauser recuperate. If I get an update on his condition I will pass along the info. I hope he or someone he knows will acknowledge our cards. And again thank you for sharing your time and talent with a stranger.
Fran, if our cards put a bright spot in Officer Troy's day, even in his family's, then we've done our job! More than likely, it will be his wife fetching the cards, so maybe she will do something.
Thank you for making Officer Troy one of our destinations!
I was so upset when I read the article about Officer Troy. It's amazing to me that these men and women put their lives on the line everyday and most of the time get no recognition at all. Our family is praying for Officer Troy and his family.
