Why can't we edit?
Why are we unable to edit posts? Sometimes you make an annoying spelling mistake or use a wrong word or bad grammar and you want to fix it SOOOO bad (and I am not the only one cause I see many people frustrated cause of this)...and we can't fix it. Why???? It is really starting to anger me already.
I can edit my post for my ATC swap, at least we are able to do that.

I think it may depend upon the forum that you're in.
I know they used to allow edits in all the forums. Unfortunately, people would post things of an inflammatory nature and then edit it - rewriting history, so to speak.
I know you can edit in swaps and BST.

Or are we only able to edit posts on threads we start? I see there is an edit button for me below.
You are correct. We used to have the edit button, but they have gotten rid of it. I think just about everyone here would like it back.
Let's start a petition to get it back! Hee, hee!
The other posters are correct. All forums had edit buttons at one time, regardless of whether or not you started the thread. Unfortunately, there were too many people who abused the edit feature which created havoc in some threads. The edit feature was left on in a few forums, such as BST, for people to be able to edit posts.
By removing the edit feature in most forums, it creates the opportunity for people to take more responsibility for their words as well as take ownership of the words they choose to post.
I'm a grammar/spelling freak, and I know exactly how you feel. I HATE that posts can't be edited! LOL It's the English major in me!

LOL, Christine, I agree! Of course, I would (if I had the power) probably go about editing other's posts for grammar and/or spelling, so it's probably better that I do not have that power. JK
Cheers,

i'll be honest with you sara, the idea of not having it offends me just a little bit. I like the idea of giving people just as much freedom as we can. it also causes complication and inconvenience at times when you can't go back and change something.
on the other hand, it forces people to be accountable for their words. it requires them to consider a little more carefully before hitting the Submit button. it preserves the "integrity" of a discussion that would get lost when someone went back and changed their previous posts. it's less administrative hassle too.
I won't say we'll *never* bring it back, but for me the arguments 'against' just slightly win out over the arguments 'for'.
Well, I am one who NEVER wants the edit button back, lol! I'd much rather live with typos and "thinko's" than have those days back. That's really all it is... an inconvenience. Simple enough to put up with when you think of the constant discord we used to have to put up with!
If you really can't stand risking people thinking you don't know how to frame a complete sentence, go ahead and post a followup..
By the way, Firefox underlines my misspelled words in red. I can right-click the word and have a pop-up window with a list of words that might be right. (It doesn't correct my grammar though.) Drat.
