Mine seems to be working fine. I mostly check in on my tablet using chrome and my cellphone using the browser. Not sure what that is, but it isn't chrome.
Is everything working fine for everyone else? Maybe I need to have my computers checked by my local computer fix-it folks. ??
Mine aren't going away in explorer or in chrome. I haven't chimed in previously because I am ignoring them, LOL, but I didn't want you to think you were alone, Fionna.
I also still have the problem, Diane - you're definitely not alone! I don't think it's a problem with locally- stored info (cookies) either. I had cleared all those to no effect but further evidence is that today I'm forced into internet access on my cell phone only (big outage for my broadband provider) and Splitcoast is behaving the same way on my phone's browser as on my laptop (and cookies wouldn't be the same for this browser - my devices are not synced).
It's like flags for last visit and last thread updates are not being compared/matched over visits.
I just realized (primarily because I had not previously contemplated it) there are green arrows in two places: to the left of the thread name, and to the right of the username of whoever made the last post (or, on the main forum page, it's to the right of a timestamp).
To be clear, I was speaking about arrows to the right of the user name not updating. But now I have to wonder whether those arrows next to the user name are maybe NOT supposed to update. Maybe they are always there as a navigational tool. If that is the case, then never mind me, my browsers are fine. (The arrows to the left of the thread topic are A-OK on my browsers.)
My best time for a screenshare would be tomorrow morning after 7 mountain time. I will have my grandkids here this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon for a bit, so those would be my second choice times.
Agreed. I've cleared my cache, etc, and still have those green arrows hanging on. I've just decided to look at the last post dates to see what threads to check. It's hard to break the habit of looking to the arrows to see what has new posts, though.

Sorry Lydia, I logged off right after that post so didn't see that. Want to set something up for next week? No idea what a screenshare entails me doing at this end but I'm sure your guys can talk me through it!

No worries - what's a good time & day next week? Bhavisha is on Pacific time.
By the way, I'm still experimenting and have been successful at clearing SOME of the arrows. I'm just not sure if they'll stay cleared. I'll keep you posted.
I couldn't make it this morning...but it looks like Lydia wasn't here either.
I will be here tomorrow all day. I don't imagine any more of my grandchildren will break their leg tomorrow, like one of my 6 year old granddaughters did today.
Just an update. I cleared my cache on Saturday early. I went through half of ALL the forums and opened every thread to try to get it to recognize that I had "read" them. Here's my results.
I did half of the forums since I wanted some to remain like they have been. They are showing green arrows on every thread since Sept 10. For some reason, the ones from Aug 25 to sept 9 seem to be clear. Seem to be. I haven't gone to every single forum yet.
I found that the threads with more than one page would ONLY clear if I opened them using the green arrow to go to the first "unread" post. And even then it took several times of doing that for most of them. If I just opened the first page, the green arrow remained stubbornly present.
If the thread was only one page, just opening the page cleared the arrow.
And in all those forums that I cleared the arrows on every thread on Saturday...they are holding the arrows since Saturday morning. Again. Or Still.
Well, it's late but I had to get on before I drop into bed. I've been offline since yesterday afternoon. One of my busy times of the week. I'll get back to you here, Bhavisha...
And thanks so much for the time spent on the phone and online.
Here's what I have found about the green arrows...as they are functioning right now.
One...Clearing the cache doesn't really help. It might if you haven't done it since 8-25 and you still have arrows from that long ago.
Two...I have gone thru the forums, and thru every thread in every forum, three times in the last 9 days, and opened every thread. The arrows all cleared, although the threads with multiple pages often required opening multiple times in multiple ways. The most reliable was to click on the last page number.
Three...The way things are working right now, and this is what is still different than before 8-25, is that if you don't open the thread, the arrow never goes away. It stays until you actually open and "read" the thread. Of course, I didn't "read" any of those threads when I was opening them on number two above because I wasn't interested in them.
Four...The result of number three is that on the main forum page almost every single square is red, showing new posts, even though there may not be new ones since the last time you were on SCS. That's because those green arrows remain on the unread posts f-o-r-e-v-e-r, or at least until you actually open them and read them.
This seems to be the only issue right now. But it makes the green arrows useless. Because if you really want to see the threads that have new posts since the last time you were on SCS, you have to look at the dates, not the arrows. And that's different that it was before 8-25.
Jeanette...if you open the threads, do the arrows go away?
Try taking one forum...say, general stamping...and go to the older threads and open them all. See if the arrows go away. Refresh occasionally so you can see what happens. Just do the ones from "yesterday" back to whenever your green arrows end.
Then watch to see if any come back. And see if you're like me and the unread threads from "today" (which becomes a new "yesterday" tomorrow LOL!) keep holding their arrows.
And how far back do you still have green arrows? In other words, what is the oldest date on your green arrows?
Mine curently go back to September 19th.
I haven't done a systematic "clear" by opening threads (sorry, no time to plod through them all) but I did just screenshot this - I posted in the Tool and Product area on Sept 25th, so four days and mutliple log-ins ago. That thread (Printer's Block - fourth one down) does not have an arrow where all the threads on that screen that are older do have arrows (as far down as the threads from 19th September).
Just re-read my post 121 where I said I cleared every thread in every forum. I meant to say that I cleared every thread in every forum that I had been clearing for the last nine days. I think I was thinking way faster than I type. I was working on all the ones I regularly read, about half the demo forums, and some of the ones I never read. I left some untouched for comparisons.
My oldest ones (in the forums that I didn't "clear systematically") are also from the 19th. I have done a clear of my cache since then (during the call from Bhavisha) but that made no effect on my arrows.
Joanne...you're getting the same thing that I am. If you open and read, or if you post in a thread, the arrow clears just fine. And if someone posts after you, the arrow comes back and the thread moves up the queue to the proper date. That's all well and good.
It's just that unless you open and read the thread, the arrow remains forever. You could clear the arrows by opening the threads, but at this point, that is pretty much useless. Because they will just mount up again. And, like you, I don't have the time to open every thread in the forums just to make the arrows on the threads...AND the red boxes on the main forum page...work properly.
I think mine are going back as far as Sept. 19th too. I don't have time to go to every thread with an arrow and open it. I'll try a few at a time. I'm going to try the "Mark Forums Read" button right below this section and see if that works. Thanks!
ETA: Well, that didn't work. When I clicked the "Mark Forums Read," I got an "Invalid Forum Specified" message. :(
I agree, Jeanette. It takes a lot of time to open all the threads. Yes, it clears them, but then they will continue to mount up unless you continually clear them.
I'm just using the dates...and trying to ignore the squares on the main forum page. Neither the arrows or the red squares are of any benefit any more.
Okay - so maybe I'm getting closer to understanding.
In the old days, when did the arrows disappear? For example, from Splitcoaststampers Forums: Card & Craft Making Discussions, Scrapbooking, Techniques, Challenges & More Forums - if you clicked on General stamping talk and saw that forum view, you might or might not click on some of the threads, but if when you were done just looking at that page - moved on and came back, the arrows on that PAGE that were there previously would be gone, regardless if you clicked into any of the threads or not? So the read/unread was based on you loading that forum into your browser, NOT the thread level?
