Default Scrapbooking away from home... what to pack?

Ok girls, I'm going to MN for a few days to visit a good friend from high school that I haven't seen in AGES, and we are going to do some scrapbooking while I'm there. Here is my list of what I need to pack... Am I missing anything?

12x12 pages
cardstock
photos
stickers
die-cuts
scissors
fiskars photo trimmer thingy
journaling pen
journaling stamp set
adhesive
album
Added: (thanks!)
Embellishments
12" paper trimmer
48 markers

What about some embellishments?

And you could probably leave the big album behind if you pack a 12x12 folder instead, right? Less stuff to lug?

I agree with leaving the album at home. Just bring a 12x12 flolder with you. That takes less room. What about stamps? Do you plan on bringing any with you? If yes do you have the spots? They would be the best. If not (i don't) I bring my markers. That way I have every color so I can always color in my stamp sets. I would also bring your basic black ink pad. The black marker runs if you use the blender pens with it. I found out the hard way!! Have fun!!

Thanks for the great ideas... Definitely have to add the markers and some embellishments to my list. I do sometimes stamp my pages, but I wasn't planning on bringing any stamps along this time only because I don't have any layouts in mind so I have no idea what I would need. If nothing else I can leave open spaces and stamp them when I get home.

And although it is a beast to lug, I do have to take the album because I want to share the pages that are already done with her! I have all of my pages in one album... I always figured I would worry about getting all my photos scrapped first, and put everything in this one big book... then when I'm all caught up (HA!) I would seperate it out into smaller themed books...

Hi Sarah,
How much time do you have between now and your trip? I find that scrappin' on the go is best done when I have page kits put together.

Not to repeat a lot of what is out there already, but briefly this is what I do...

Pull pictures for however many layouts I think I can get done.

Choose cardstock background and accent papers.

Choose stamps and inks, get the stamping part done for each layout.

Put all of the above in a page protector. With everything pre-determined I feel less like I am going to forget something that I might want to add to a page, as well as coming home with pages in all stages of completeness.

Then add embellishments like hardware, ribbbon, fibers to the page protector.

What I basically do when I am at the scrap location is determine the final layout, trim photos, mount them to mats, add embellishments and do my journaling.

My tool kit has the following: 12" paper trimmer, paper trimming scissors, adhesive (mono, sticky tape, and glue dots both flat and dimmensional) journaling pens, my su "tool" kit, plus punches that I tend to use most often.

***FWIW...I utilize this method even when I am scrapping at home. I try to power scrap once weekend per month. So for a week before I put page kits together. Then I am able to blast through a ton more pages...six of this half a dozen of the other I guess, but it sure does seem more productive than if I were to just do it one page at a time.

i know you said you don't have any layouts in mind, but I really find I lug less stuff with me if I pre-plan my pages. Then you don't have to take every piece of paper and every embellishement you have with you. My only problem is, I take too many of my pages kits to get done in the time of the crop

Have fun and get's lots done!

Ok, definitely adding my 12" paper trimmer to the list... HELLO. How could I forget that? Thanks for mentioning it allidee!

As for time... there's none. :( I am actually writing from work. I leave here at noon, have to run home and pack everything, stop at the post office, and be on the road by 1:00 or 1:30... So I'm going to wing it this time!! I love the idea of the pre-planned pages though. I'm going to have to work on that for the future!

maybe you could check with your friend and borrow some of her stuff - do you really need to bring your own paper trimmer and scissors? I can see paper and adhesive, but non-consumable items maybe you can just share?

have fun!

Sounds like it might be too late, but what about alphabet stamps?

And if your friend is a scrapper, I agree you can leave some of the basics behind - although it is nice to have two of everything so you don't have to share!

Sounds fun - I really feel in need of a scrapping day!

Oh, I wish I could have gotten to you sooner! I do hope that you took your eyelet setter if you are planning on using that type of embellishment. If not, maybe your friend will have one that she can share. Have a GREAT time!

I really love to paper piece so I always pack my chalks and my chalk stick/pompons. I take my CM cutting system and adhesives and my own favorite pair of scissors. The rest I bum off sis if I need. Oh sometimes I take my QK along.

Greetings from Minnesota! Naturally I would check SCS after settling down for the night! LOL!

You know, I thought about leaving some of my non-consumable stuff at home, but I really had no idea what she had. And then sometimes it's just nice to use your own stuff because you're used to it, ya know?? It's all good. I managed to get everything into one one medium sized crate (except the photos - those are seperate)... Now the trick will be to scrap more than we talk tomorrow!!

Default wow Allidee! Not to hijack this thread, but...

Great advice! I'm a relatively newbie scrapper, and don't have a lot of time or large chunks of time to spare for this, so I had started doing bits of stuff whenever I have the time. Your advice has helped me put it all together and just makes so much sense. Thanks!

Here's another hint that works for me -

Take an hour or two and collect what you want to use for a layout or two (or three or 25 :p ) including photos, papers, journalling notes, page ideas, embellishments and put each pre-planned "set" in a craft keeper or 2-gal ziploc bag. Also create a basic tool kit for yourself with cutter, adhesive, pencil, whatever you commonly use, etc. The time you spend doing this upfront will be repaid seven-fold! It always takes me the longest just choosing what to put together on a page. Then when you have 10-15 or 30 minutes, just grab your pre-planned baggie and tool kit. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll whip through those pages! Also great for those spur of the moment let's-get-together-and-scrap times.
