I was at Ikea this weekend. It looks as though they are discontinuing the Expidit shelving. I think most every craft room in the gallery has them. I know mine does. If you are thinking about redoing your room with them I would get on it.
They'll likely have something similar, if the line was that popular.
I need a decent, tall, free standing bookcase, but I want one with super sturdy shelves that won't sag. DD has one from Ikea full of books and some of the shelves are starting to sag.
I went to the Ikea website...to "Ask Anna" and, while she did not answer my question or even come close, "she" did have a sense of humor! I am paraphrasing:
Was that answer helpful?
No.
I'm sorry, as an Ikea Assistant, I do not know the meaning of the word "no"
That's funny!
I'm sorry that you did not find that answer helpful, it was not meant to be a joke
Well it was darned funny anyway!
I am glad you noticed
That conversation just made my day!!!

Darn it. Thaks for the heads-up. I have a small Expedit unit in my craftroom, one in our girls' playroom, and a couple in my classroom. I was planning some classroom "remodeling" and adding a couple more units. I suppose an Ikea trip will be in the works for next weekend.
If I were re-doing the Expedit line I would do away with that 5 x 5 cube unit. I know, I know - it's so nifty for stashing so much stuff. But people do move, and those huge units are a pain to think about moving. A lot of stress on the structure too, I imagine. I've seen some on Craigslist and don't notice them selling out overnight. I would rather see it sold as two units with a way to lock the two together when installed (and unlock them when moved). That said, I do love the Expedit units and have one (a smaller one).
Ack! I was planning to build a craft space with the Expedit line! But not for another couple of months. I'd better check my local IKEA and see what's up. And possibly rearrange my budget.
I have a 4 x 4 and a 5 x 5 in my stamping room. I bought both of them used off of Craigslist and from people who had already moved them across country. We are an Army family and we have moved them both twice ourselves and they are still just as sturdy as when I got them. I would love to have another 5 x 5.
Last time we went to Charlotte we didn't take a trailer with us.. but when we go for the Coca Cola 600 Nascar race this spring, we plan on taking it so that we can buy some new goodies at Ikea.
thanks for the heads up, I hope that they are just redoing things and not discontinuing them all together as these bookshelves are awesome.
blessings ~ Pam

Its still on sale here in the UK, in store & website, no mention of being discontinued here. I really hope not, possibly the best storage item I have ever found! Maybe its just a colour option, or a particular size?
This would surprise me if true. Expedit is one of the flagship items for IKEA. I can see them discontinuing a color or even a couple of the items, but not the entire line.
I've been using Billy bookcases since college, and the line has changed drastically in the last 20 years, but they still carry Billy.

Sue, that is what my initial reaction was. I looked when we got down in the warehousing area and all the shelves items had discontinued on them. So if they are changing the style and or colors, if you have some and want to expand with the same items now would be the time. Unfortunately they don't give any more info than discontinuing style
This is what a friend told me after being in the store this weekend and speaking to someone there. No they are not being discontinued, but certain pieces of them are (the desk attachment, the door/drawer inserts, etc.) They will be coming out with new items for Expedit, but they are not discontinuing them because they are IKEA's flagship product. Hope this is good information!
I'm so glad I got my desk attachment when I did then, its the most useful piece I got! It fits onto my 4x2 Expedit, is home to my 'bug and BSPro, the cubes house all the plates, dies etc. Shame too about the drawer units for the Expedit- they are great.
