I have approximately 20 of the distress ink pads and am looking for ideas on how to store them and still have easy access. Right now they are just stacked on the side on my table with the blending pads velcro'ed to the bottom, but they keep falling over. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I can't say that I have an idea for you, but I do have to say I love the idea of storing the blending pads on the bottom with velcro. Such a great idea!!!!! I only have three and they are just stored with my other inks in an old tape storage wood shelf thing that I got at a resale shop.

Oooh, love that you velcro the pads too! Awesome idea! I keep all of my stamp pads, Stickles, etc., in a Stampin' Things unit. Works beautifully! One of my favorite pieces in my room. You can see more info here.

Tim Holtz did have a line of storage tins for the Distress Ink pads, re-inkers, stickles etc... They are not made anymore, but I was able to get 2 just recently at AC Moore, it was in there clearance section for only $10 a piece.
If you want to see what they look like, Tim has a video on his blog HERE
Love that velcro pad idea. Mine are thrown into a zip lock at the moment.
And Patter, that organiser is inspirational. My brain is working overtime on creating the same for my wall (postage would be too much to get it here in Australia :( )

I'll check today. My dog's groomer is right by there and he has an appointment this morning! How convenient
Ok, I'm back-they had one left in stock. I can go to the post office Thursday to check the postage. PM your name and address for me so I can get an accurate qoute.

Oooh, I bet that would be expensive to ship to Australia! Maybe there is someone there that could make something like it!

I store my Distress Ink pads on a Lazy Susan. You can see a photo on my blog Tweedcurtain Productions: Distress Inks BLENDING FOAM Storage Solution where I also show how I store my Velcro blending tool pads (one for each colour). i am very happy with this as I reach for these inks all the time so they are right on my work table.
So i have this problem too....Distressed ink storage. One thing is that they are a felt ink pad and best way to store felt ink is upside down. But keeping them upside down in stacks is a hassle as when I rifle thru the stacks to grab the color I want, the stupid lids fall off. (this happens whether they are right side up or upside down)
I currently have them on a Lazy Susan as well. But I'm not too crazy for this idea. So if anyone has a better idea lemme know. Especially one to keep the lids from falling off so easily (aside from rubber banding the things).
As far as the blending tools (foam & felt pads that adhere to the velcro wood thingy) I am confused? you ladies don't throw these out after they get all full of ink??? Why would you need to save these for reuse or even save and attach them to the bottoms of the distressed ink pads? I just make my own new felt pads with felt and cut it to shape so I can just toss it after blending. For the foam ones I just use rectangle makeup sponges and glue felt on the one side so it sticks to the velcro -- its the same foam and works great and FAR cheaper than buying the Adirondack refill pads or Inkssentials cut n' dry pads (both Ranger products).
I don't save my felt ones but I do save the foam ones, they still work great and it doesn't seem to use as much ink. I have tried the makeup sponges and they don't seem to work as nice as the form pads. HTH someone.

oh for a min I thot I was crazy for tossing them all the time...like maybe I was suposed to be saving them because they work better if they are used. I will say the makeup sponges dont seem to glide as well --- but I've gotten the hang of them so using them in sub for cost benefit over the adirondack/cutndry is okay with me.
I use the make-up ones too. I toss them in a bowl of water I've been using for rinsing my stamps when I'm finished and wash them out. When they get too icky I toss them.

I love the idea of using the QK magpie storage! I have one that kinda floats from one use to another so I may have to try using it to store my distress pads. I currently have mine all in a plastic bin similar to the really useful boxes that lock. It fits six stacks of about 4. I put a stack of paper towels on top just to fill the space and catch any leaks if they occur because I turn the whole thing over and store it in a drawer. That way they are stored like they should be but I can flip it over before opening the box and not worry about the lids coming off. To do this, though, you do need a box that fits the number that you have so they don't toss around.
At Home Depot or similar stores you can find sets of drawers used for storing screws and other hardware. There are units with larger drawers and that is what I use to store my distress inks. Each drawer will hold 3 ink pads and the matching reinkers. I store them in color groups and this works really great for me. I hope you can find something that works for you!
I couldn't stand it and moved my Distress Inks to my QK Magpie storage unit. Thank you Barbara! What a perfect use for this. I labeled all of them upside down with my label maker and also organized by color family. It is perfect! I think I found the FINAL use for my magpie. I have several colors...although not all...and have room for several more. I could even use the space where the drawer is if I exceeded the capacity of the cubbies.
I came across this blog, Syzygy of Me, yesterday when I was reading somewhere on SCS and thought I could make whatever I wanted this way (with some patience and accurate cutting:rolleyes.

I only have about 8 distress inks. I bought a Cropper Hopper Inkpad Storage thing at Hobby Lobby. Each holder holds 12 ink pads. I bought one just to hold my ditress inks, and it works perfectly. My other inks are stored in the old Napa Valley cassette things.

I purchased a square craft box with lid from Spotlight here in Western Australia, covered it and it holds about 20 distriss ink pads

I have them all (addiction, yes...). I put the foams on the bottom with a glue dot. I got the Alex draws from IKEA and lined them with heavy brown paper and put them in the top draw. I had to offset a few on a second layer, but they are all visible.... I love it as they are all at my fingertips.
I ordered this unit a few weeks ago and am waiting to receive it. I almost ordered the 48, but I decided that two of the 36's will probably be what I need, ultimately. For now, the 36 will be enough, but I am also a big Distress Ink fan (okay, an addict, I admit it), and doubt I'll stop adding colors. And there are already more than 48 colors.

Pretty amazing. I will have to look at the video, to see how she did it!
I confess I have no patience to make anything. I just wanted something to arrive on the UPS truck, ready to go.

I simply bought an old music cassette storage unit at the local Good Will store. It holds Distress ink pads really well, as well as many other brands. I liked the way it worked so well, that I now have three cassette tape storage units on my wall, and I store all my variety ink pads in them! Sometimes I store other products in them too. Easy to see, easy to grab. I also labeled all my Distress ink pads with my Dynamo Labeler.
I just got an email from Organize More saying my unit is being put together and that it should be shipped soon. Not a moment too soon. I have my DIs piled up in a plastic bin and finding what I want is a nuisance. Everything falls over and I'm always worried the tops aren't on tight.
Gillian - your Dynamo Labels stick to your pads? I assume of course you mean the top of the pad (blue or black, I've ordered them and they have come in both colors), where the pad meets the velcro since obviously if you put the label on the inking side, well, that wouldn't work. And the pads stick to the velcro on the holder okay with the label in the way there? It must not be a very big label.
What Dynamo label maker do you have? (I have a lot of things that need a label, now that I think of it.)

I used to scoff up every cheap wooden cassette rack I would find at garage sales and thrift shops. Turns out some of them were 8 track cartridge racks, and each slot holds a Distress pad and re-inker. I use them also for Memento pads and re-inkers. The openings are not tall enough for Adirondack re-inkers though. I think cassette racks would work if you could remove alternate dividers to make each slot double tall.
