Totally agree. I am planning to order the new colors, the new buttons and brads (love those things) and maybe the new adhesive pearls, in other words, accessories. Just that will take me the year of parties to buy.
I'm looking for different and unique stamp sets. Not much in the new catty for that. LOTS of flowers.........love flowers, but have enough flower sets. Won't be buying.
A few of the new colors of paper have caught my attention!
I only saw a few sets that I truly wanted, but a couple of those were wood mounted. I really only wanted clear mounted. I saw a few new colors that I want too. I spent this month's craft budget on PTI instead!!
Why is it that people always start threads like this having a whinge about SU! and not other stamp companies?
You never see threads saying "ABCstampcompany doesn't have enough different stamps!". :?

There are MANY threads about other companies as well.
In fact recently there was 4 threads at one time bashing a different company.
Why is when people share their thoughts they get flamed for it????
But noe for me to answer OPS queston.
I also agree that there is not much in the line of stamps that I must have. There a few sets I know I will buy.
There are many repeats and the same style. People want something different and its not.
I will buy the new colors and I found several accessories I buy at club.

There are always going to be those who love it and those who hate it. As for me, I'm in love! Do I love every single set, no (thank goodness for my poor wallet) but I really like the style, the sets and the samples! Unfortunately they can't please all the people all the time and neither can any company. Sorry if you don't care for it, I'm sure it has to stink to be excited to see it and then not really like it...been there with stamps and other stuff. I don't really get the "there's nothing new" in it. Yes, some sets resemble other older sets but they need to cater to new stampers as well as established ones AND really, how many flower sets, kids sets (whatever the set may be) can be so totally unique they don't resemble something else after what, 20 years? I looked at another companies catalog and found it to be EXTREMELY similar to the SU catty....literally for almost every single set you can find something similar in each others catalogs. Here's to hoping that either the catty will grow on you or maybe you'll like the Holiday mini!
I have the new catty in hand now, and I like it. But then again, I like vintage, and there's a lot of vintage this time. I'm a stamp veteran, and I still managed to find several sets I liked. The SU catty can't be everything for everyone, but that's okay. Some minis I've loved, and others I haven't liked at all. In the end, I just find inspiration from all of the pretty samples and colors and new ideas. Hope you can use the catty as your inspiration tool in the future!
It always takes me a while to warm up to the new sets... I'm not one that does well with change. I love to look for inspiration here on SCS before I purchase any stamp set and so far I haven't been disappointed (you ladies are great!). But I can say that I love, love, love the new colors and will be orders paper, ink and buttons soon!

will be able to get.....I've been stamping for over 11 years now
and still love it!!!
I found plenty to make me smile! I've been stamping for 20 years and I'm always amazed at the new ideas. Creative minds for sure. Love the new core colors--very fresh and fun.

oh the irony! haha ;)
The only kind of threads I can think of maybe are the ones that don't like the mouthless children kind of ones. BUt I've yet to notice ones that say that someone is disappointed because a certain company isn't suiting their style any more. It does, to me, seem unique to Stampin Up.

Oh, I ALWAYS think that! And I don't go on and say about ABCstampcompany, "I don't see any unique stamps"-even if I don't

I think it's easy to forget that folks new to this hobby may not have "enough" stamps in one particular style or theme. So, imo, it is very reasonable for SU to offer a large selection of images in popular themes (I think flowers and snowmen are two great examples.) Also, I don't have kids so never bought cute stamps but now that the extended family has infants-to-toddlers I look at the "growing up" section instead of skipping it. Maybe someone who now has more adults in their circle of family and friends will now feel like looking at flowers/trees.
No one company will ever please everyone and I think it is harder to please people the longer a company is in business (as the years go by there will be more people who already have enough snowmen stamps so more "unhappy" people.)
Usually, and again this year, my only "complaint" is that my budget is too small for my wishlist (and that is true for every company where I have a wishlist!)

Maybe not... but all everyone has talked about is every aspect of the new catty for the past month and how wonderful it was supposed to be. Sorry but I didn't see anything I didn't already have stamps that were similar.
I see new, fresh unique stamps coming out of many other stamp companies so I will be spending my money there. There's no need to scold those of us that do not like SU as much as others...

I am this way too. It always takes me a while to warm up to new sets. At first glance I didn't see much in the way of "must haves" (except the owl punch). But I do love a lot of the samples in the new catty, I think they did a great job with that. The more I see samples the more I love some of the new sets.

I totally understand not everyone will be in love with SU forever if at all! I buy from lots of companies, and always see a certain style around that specific company.
I really think other companies have much better sentiments than SU does.
I still new fresh things from SU....but that's just me.

The stamps are a let down to me, but I like the new colors much more than I expected. I'm not excited about the "new to SU" accessories because many have been available with other companies for a long time.

I like a lot of the new stamps and accessories. Many times, though, I end up liking a stamp set when I have seen it in "action", i.e. what someone else has done with it. I guess I have learned not to be too hasty in my judgment of the new catty because I end up changing my mind a lot!

I haven't seen all the new colors in person yet. I have some of then that were previously in colors but am always on the lookout for new papers!
I agree with you on the accessories/embellishments... there are so many out there from different companies and personally I feel that SU's are a bit pricey.

I'm curious what these fresh unique stamps are? Can you show me some? I just don't really get the "new" thing. Flowers are flowers, trees are trees....sets are going to resemble other sets sometimes. I can't seem to use my words very well today (must have been the new electronic medical records at work today, blech) but did that make any sense? Really, I'd like to see what you think is unique just out of curiosity. I see posts like this all the time but never really "see" what you (not you but you in general) are talking about. Or tell me specifically what you are looking for....

Well, in the past 6 months I have purchased from Hero Arts, PTI, MFT, CHF, Whippersnapper, Stampendous, A Muse, and Impress.
Yes, flowers are flowers and trees are trees but looking back (and forward) all the SU artwork is in the same "style". It is just a different variation of the same artists work from catty to catty. I can look at a card on a blog and tell it is a SU stamp from the artwork style without even looking at the card recipe... which is what I mean by "fresh". If you are SUO I don't really expect you to understand since you are limiting yourself to SU and the new catty is probably fine for you. Unfortunately, I do not feel the same way... I like the variety.

Please don't be offended, I meant no harm, just wanted examples. I don't think just because I choose to be SUO (or mostly, I have other stamps of course it just helps me budget to stick to one company and I don't get lost in a pile of stuff that I don't know what to do with) I can't understand. That's exactly what I was trying to do. Trust me, I look PLENTY at other companies stuff all the time, in fact I JUST came from a website after browsing. It's fun, I just like to window shop and can get a lot of inspiration too! Where I was looking had quite a bit that was similar to SU actually I thought...I mean I think most companies follow trends, kwim?
I guess it really must be a style preference although I think SU has quite the variety, the way I see a lot of the companies you mentioned (and have bought from most of them at some point in the past too!) is that they are generally (not always of course) too cutesy for me. Not saying that's bad or even why you like them but just how I "view" them. Granted a year or so ago I wasn't into vintage so if this catalog had come out a year ago I probably would not liked half of what I do now but tastes change. When I started stamping I was totally into Hero Arts. For one, I had a great store near me so it was kind of a matter of what was there but I slowly kind of just gravitated away from it and other stuff too.
I really am just trying to put a finger on why people love/hate what they do...I'm peculiar that way....maybe too many psych classes in college:-) This is a very interesting thread.
I love the new catty - not every single stamp set but I have many of the returning sets. I have ordered the owl punch (so cute!!) and will be ordering Have a Seat and the Elegant Lines embossing folder as well as paper and inkpads in some of the new colors. I have made my order lists all the way to October!!! I know that I am going to have to readjust when the Holiday Mini arrives!!

That's your opinion....not everyone feels limited by them. I get kind of tired of comments about how people who use SU are limited or not creative or not a good artist or not experienced. Maybe I'm sensitive but it hurts my feelings, like I'm not as good as "you". I've been stamping at LEAST 15 years, probably longer since I actually started in grade school (granted it was a Lisa Frank stamp set, LOL) and I've taken breaks now and then like in college when I didn't have any money but over the years I had a ton of stamps from a wide variety of stamp companies. I feel as if I grew INTO SU! It's just the way of the world, different strokes for different folks.
I just wish it wasn't such a "fight" over who is "better". Just because I choose to only use SU now doesn't mean they are better by any means, I just happen to like the style and I found them first (had I been invited to a CTMH party instead I'm sure I'd have fallen for them!). I don't like some other companies style or stuff but I don't post about it, I simply don't comment one way or another. Instead of posting on how i don't like the style or the new sets or whatever the case may be I try to focus on what I do like, I'm a glass half full kinda gal and I just get down with all the negativity...sorry needed to vent....you can blame my mom...she brought my crazy aunt over tonight and got me all riled up:-)
I just received my new catalog today. While some of the images may not have changed too much over the years, the stage you are in life helps determine what catches your attention. I never looked seriously at any of the baby sets or kid themed sets until this year when I learned I'm going to have a grandson, due in September. I'm also one that needs to see the sets used before getting excited about them. I can't count the number of SU sets I bought after seeing what can be done with them. I buy stamps from many companies (hadn't heard of SU when I started stamping 13 years ago), but
I always enjoy seeing the new catalog and products.

Oh and Pollybear...please don't take offense that I "singled you out". Yours was not the first comment that "hurt my wittle bitty fewwlings" but was the last one I read so I quoted and responded but meant more to be in general....
It's been a rough night around here with the crazy aunt and all...loooong story but in a nutshell she's, well, nutso! Anywho...maybe I should take one of my plane ride Xanex's around new catty time....or any time my aunt decides to come over, LOL!
I am tired of hearing that SU! is behind trend or that you've seen everything already when in reality SU! is designing far ahead of time, maybe even before some of the stamps you think they are similar to were designed. At Convention last year, they told us that the catalog was finished and they were almost finished with the mini catalog (the one that goes live September 1, 2010). I don't have any idea why they need to design this far in advance as I don't know what everything requires but you can't really expect a company to routinely bring out stamps that when they were designed were so far before trend that when they come out they beat others "to the punch (no pun intended)" so to say. I'm not saying you can't feel like this, just wanted to share some facts before you judge what SU! is releasing. The nature of the beast is that comparing SU! to companies with monthly releases or even quarterly releases just isn't really comparing apples to apples - I think only other large catalog based companies would understand the production and design that requires such a great lead time. Again I'm not saying I really even understand that - just sharing...
As for the continued reprisal of "SU!'s accessories are so expensive" - I'll give a few comparison's to other stamp or paper crafting companies and similar products...btw I do know I'm a math geek but I really do these comparisons when I hear these complaints:
Ok I got carried away - I hadn't compared in a while so I wanted to do that again. Just information for you...I guess I'm obsessed with facts tonight! Anyway, if you don't like SU!'s style that is your biz and I do appreciate your opinion just wanted to share a few things...(I got a little OCD about sharing price comparisons as that was kind of fun to do...again I know I'm a nerd!)
P.S. For those fellow lovers of the owl punch, I got mine today and haven't played with it yet! Glad so many of you like it - I had the set Owl Together Now before it retired but rarely ended up using it because of time constraints (watercoloring) so I'm super excited about the punch! The new Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch is pretty sweet too b/c you can use it with both sides punched or cut it apart and get 2 scalloped pieces!
