Altered Dominos

I am working on some last minute gift items and can't find the answer I am looking for and am hoping someone can help me. When making altered dominos, do they have to be sealed? What kind of hardware do I need to use to make necklaces? Do I need to use anything special to adhere the backs on them to make them pins? Can I heat emboss on them?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me! I would also welcome any other ideas of what to do with my dominos.

I don't think you need to seal them, but if you are going to make them as jewelry pieces I would seal them. Crystal Effects, Varnish, or Plaid Liquid Glass (what I use) would all be good products to seal them. I haven't tried heat embossing, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, the material would probably withstand the heat for the short amount of time you would need to get the job done. If you want to make them into necklaces you would either need to drill a hole through the piece first, or adhere a necklace bail after. You would also need to use a really strong adhesive like E6000 adhesive (Michaels carries it) to attach the bail. I'm not an expert, but hopefully this info helps you out.

In my opinion if they are not going to get a lot of wear then you do not need to seal.
If mild wear then use a spray sealer like krylon polyurethane. (really LIGHT coat at first so colors do not run) Heavy wear, I would use envirotext light. (This is what the box looks like http://www.save-on-crafts.com/enlikit8o8ys.html, get it at michaels with a coupon tho)

Yep, you can emboss on them. Watch your fingers tho. They get pretty toasty.
