NOV09VSNE, BENVENUTI al CARNIVALE di VENEZIA!, Saturday, November 14th, 11:00am EST
Title: "Welcome to the Venice Carnival!" Hostess: Deb ~dcorder~ Keyword: NOV09VSNE Day/Date: Saturday, November 14, 2009 Time: 11:00 AM (EST)
BENVENUTI AL CARNIVALE di VENEZIA!
My sister teaches high school math/science at Aviano High School, Aviano Air Force Base, Italy which is an hour north of Venice, Italy. We visit from time to time and in 2001, we went to Carnivale (the Italian version of Mardi Gras). Unlike its New Orleans counter part, this is more Masquerade Ball than Street Party. The denizens of Venice spend up to a year on costumes to be displayed in San Marco Square during the festivities. These elegant costumes are head to toe FABULOUS! I took over 20 pictures of costumes and narrowing it down to 4 to share with you was nearly impossible.
My challenge is for you: Using one of the costume patterns listed below create your own card. Remember, the Venice Carnival is all about opulence!
Ghost and Red Lady.JPGHarlequin Couple & Sunflower.JPG
(click on the costume picture to enlarge) The Ghostis modeling a simple floor-length, A-line frock. The accessories are a stiff plastic ruffle over the shoulder and a box hat with plume. Card Pattern Fabric Swatches (color combos):
* Monochromatic (one color-different shades)
* Neutral: white and/or silver Accessories:
*Acetate, window sheets, glass, mirrors, mica, etc - anything clear
*Rub-ons Behind the mask (bonus):
*Use pleats or ruffles to add some flair.
The Lady in Redis dressed in a rich, red velvet ball gown that would make Marie Antoinette envious. The gown is covered with small crystals, flowers, and doves. A cornucopia hat completes the ensemble. Card Pattern Fabric Swatches (color combos):
*Real Red, Pink Passion, Pixie Pink, Summer Sun (or metallic gold) Accessories:
*Blingglitter, Stickles, Glimmer Mist (or similar)
*Pierce the paper Behind the mask (bonus):
*Add texture with an embossing folder or other method.
Baroque CoupleThe little black dress shines here. This couple dressed in baroque elegance epitomizes the Renaissance Masquerade. Card Recipe Fabric Swatches (color combos):
*Black. Metallic Gold (Barely Banana), Very Vanilla, Whisper White OR
*Old Olive, Elegant Eggplant, Bravo Burgundy, More Mustard Accessories:
*3 or more layers of cardstock
*Pearls, rhinestones, and/or dew drops
*Lace, ribbon, twine, yarn, etc Behind the mask (bonus):
*Use a border punch to show your layers off.
The SunflowerThis delightful frock is all about whimsy. A simple sheaf dress with a flair at the hips draws the eye down to her whimsical grasshopper accessory. Card Pattern Fabric Swatches (color combos):
*Taken with Teal, Green Galore, Yoyo Yellow OR
*Temp Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Barely Banana Accessories:
*Flowers: Primas, punched flowers, flower stamps, etc
*Die cuts (Nesties or other) Behind the mask (bonus):
*Add surprise element (extra points for a grasshopper)

Good Morning All....
SCS seems to be a little more user friendly for me today. SO I hoping to fix all my upload mistakes in my gallery from last night and be able to have fun with a couple of the challenges today before I have to leave for my workshop. Then I will be back later this evening.
This is a great challenge to start the morning off with... I love all the costumes! My dream is to some day be able to go to Italy and see the Carnivale!

I hope you have a better day with your computer - it can be so frustrating. I hope you can get to Italy too...it's just incredible!
Great challenge! I love all your samples...I must admit, I couldn't "see" how the color combos would look, but your cards make each combo look so gorgeous! Hmmm, decisions, decisions!

Glad you didn't give up on SCS! Looking forward to seeing your creations!
Not sure I'll have time to play this one today, but THANKS SO MUCH for the detail in your challenge description. Just reading and seeing your uploads has enriched my day!
What fun!
I DO have a grasshopper stamp, though ... so I hope to play along! ;)

Well, you do have until tomorrow night at 10pm ET to play along! Would love to see your grasshopper!
What a fabulous challenge. While I was in college, I studied in Europe and was in Venice the last night of Carnvale - what an experience! The costumes are amazing.

It's really something! Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Well, my "hour" is up...I hope you're all busy sewing your fingers to the bone on your Venetian costumes! I'm off on a super secret mission to surprise my niece at her bridal shower (which means flying Denver/Chicago) this afternoon. I'll check back in when I get to Chicago!
I chose Lady in Red challenge. The color combo is a challenge for me.
I used an impressability as a stencil and sprayed with TA's bubble gum pink mist.
Well here's my attempt at this one. Great idea basing cards on costumes! The word "dove" got me going, under the Lady in Red pattern. I used the red/pink color pallette but added a little olive to the mix.
Hope someone can help, as I am a total newbie to posting and challenges. I have successfully uploaded my card to my gallery with NOV09VSNE in the title and it does not show up on the challenge gallery??? what have i done wrong. I have waited at least an hour in case they don't post it right away??
I found your card - when you open it in your own gallery, hit the edit button (under all the write up about what you used to make it) and there will be a Keyword field. Enter just NOV09VSNE there.
