Are you getting tired of seeing stamps with flourishes, owls, little kids and angels? While I love angels, owls and little kids, after I buy one or two sets with those themes, that's all I'm interested in. I went shopping at our local stamp store and left with only markers in my bags.
Sure would love it if the stamp companies came out with some new themes....
NOOOOOOO! I can't handle "the new" right now...too many stamps sit, uninked, on my desk right now, including 7 SU sets that I'm just dying to get to but haven't had time yet. Plus, I've got so many other stamps that haven't seen love in a while, but I'm eager to try some new things with them.
I need a pause from new stuff for a while. My creative self is overloaded at the moment, LOL!
With as many stamps as I have, I don't think they could come out with too many "new" ideas...except maybe llamas!! (no....no...noooo! I didn't mean to say it!)
It seems like once one company hits on something NEW or FRESH all of the other companies start following suit. First it was owls, now I'm on owl overload. I didn't even purchase any owl stamps- just get a bit tired of seeing them all over.
Great thread. I don't enjoy coloring images anymore. I also have vision problems. What I see more of and really like are the silhouette stamps. I have the pocket silhouettes from SU and love the style and size. I, too have more stamps than I need:rolleyes: Still love to get new ones. I use one of my very old silhouette stamps, Wildflower by Stamp It. It's very old and it's my go to image.
I'm really not a big fan of the current trendy stuff in stamping. I recently sold a big lot of once-trendy stamps and impulse buys, and decided to use the money to purchase some oldies but goodies from SU that I've always wanted to have in my collection. I still have about 5 or 10 more sets that I'm hunting down. I'm having so much fun with some of these older sets like Just A Line, On The Farm, English Cottage, and many more. Some of the sets are more than ten years old, but they're from a stamping era when real artists were employed to create artwork, not someone sitting in front of a computer coming up with another generic graphic-generated image.
I'm a prim and country-lovin' gal, so I also love the images from companies like The Saltbox Studio, among others.
Please...no more flowers, swirls, cupcakes, birds, or owls! Trend overload!;)
It's funny. I'm going through the same thing. I'm not motivated to buy any new sets b/c they don't scream out to me. I looked through the SU catty and was only interested in 3 sets. I used to look through the catty and wanted every set on there. I don't know what happened along the way. (Too much accumulation, perhaps?) And the prices are too high to buy SU sets and tacking on shipping/taxes...it comes to to waaaay more than I'd like to spend on sets that are similar to others that I have in my closet. Plus the local stores now have more variety to chose from. When you can use the 40-50% off coupon, you can save a ton of money. I used to get on here thinking I NEED to have this or that set, now I'm not sure......I feel un-moved sometimes.
I, too, am on trend overload! I'm still trying to catch up with older trends! It seems like every time I turn around there's something new that's the "latest and greatest."
I'd love to see some more stamps similar to the old PSX images. I find that I enjoy the older stamps - like Toile Blossoms - more than what they're making now. I love cute images too, but I still want it to look like an artist drew it.
It took me a while to figure out that just because something is trendy doesn't make it right for me (think shag carpets for those of you old enough to remember). I have stamps and sets that I've never used and don't even like. What was I thinking??!!
But -- there are so many amazingly different stamps out there. Even familiar to SCS companies have some interesting stuff. I have Gina K's Tee shirt sets and think that those sets are unique and so much fun. The Thomas Kinkade stamps at Cornish Heritage farms is another line that is different.
And then there are tons of companies that don't advertise here on SCS or whose stuff you may not see on the blogs you visit. www.stampzia.com is very different. If you are really tired of the same old same old, wander to some alternative stamping places and you'll find some alternative stuff. Some I love and some I hate but it is always refreshing to see different!

I agree with Joan B. There is SO MUCH STUFF available! If you're tired of what you think is trendy or same 'ol - just do a Google walk! It's amazing what you can find out there, and, believe it or not, there are many companies that aren't plugged into the SCS trends at all.
Again, do a web search and try different key words. In the off chance you don't find something you like, you'll still have fun seeing what is out there!

Aw thanks Joan! I am always amazed by what Melanie draws. Her wine glass with all the charms is very different too. She just has an "outside the box" kind of creative mind.

DRS Designs, www.drsdesigns.com has a ton of different stamps...and since they don't sell their stamps in sets you don't end up with images you might not use. I think they are definitely worth a look...definitely not the same old "stuff"! Tons of sentiments too. Mark your calendars because they will be having another new and fun release the end of next week!!
You can buy mounted or plain rubber...
Happy shopping!!
Truer words was never spoke, Joan, lol! I love SCS, don't get me wrong, but we are so insulated here, almost inbred. There is a huge world of stamping out there that's been plugging along for years and years. I love Stamp Zia, too, Joan! She's so nice...I remember ordering from her years ago and she threw a couple of "Z" monogram stamps in my order, just because "us Z's have to stick together," lol! Funny gal...and her work is amazing!
Go on out and check out those Gingerwood links. From those places you'll find more places...and if you think your wallet's not safe here, just wait til you've seen "out there"!
Hugs,
Betsy

This was actually the FIRST thing that came to my mind when I read the OP... I must be on here too much!
Not a big fan of all the trendy stuff either, but I do love the kids stamps (sarah kay, whiff of joy style) ,and I will always love Penny Black stamps. I think they never go out of style.
They have the most detailed stamps and I am getting so many compliments on my cards with these stamps. Plus she has a flat rate, very low for shipping.

Couldn't agree with you more! When I see the images from these old stamp companies I'm reminded of the adage "Old is gold". They've such beautiful images but nobody to market them. Love those Penny black images, not just the critters, but also those with flora.
Maybe I joined the world of stamping recently and find those old images so cherishable and those who've been here for long are tired of these.
That is what I like about a thread like this. A load of stuff comes out of the woodwork that I didn't know about. Oh and I do love Onyx stamps, once I got over the fact they are black!

I couldnt agree more, I have some of the botanical flowers collection from PSX. their artwork was wonderful, it was my favourite company. some of their stamps are available from inkadinkadoo label
there are so many substandard images drawn by untalented artists out there and made into stamps!!!!! generally I stick with the manufacturers I know who create the images I love to work with and have a good quality of craftmenship in the making of the stamps
Penny Black is my favourite for new stamps now along with My cute house mouses from Stampabilities, I feel like I have achieved something when I have watercoloured these images,
I suppose it depends what your own preferences are, I like owls and flourishes etc but there is a limit to the more simple images for me.
all the best

Thank You for encouraging me to do this decorated envelope. I like all kinds of design, all kinds of stamp companies. Just wanted to show you that there are so many companies out there, so many "types" of images. I am not affiliated with Stampland or Art Impressions, but would encourage you to look at some of their images. Stampland has some lovely flowers, very detailed that can be simply stamped or colored/embellished. (follow the site and click on what's new).
Has anyone seen the australian SU Catalogue, we have some very australian stamps.
If you like water colouring or marker inking on stamps and want something a bit different or very unusual, then try to get hold of aboriginal art stamps.
There are two sets that spring to mind and they are All aboriginal and It's Maori, Mate. Both really unusual and both challenging to be creative with.
Oh and I do love Onyx stamps, once I got over the fact they are black!
Thanks, French Chablis!! I appreciate your comment. A lot of folks do love our BBR ("beautiful, black rubbah"). Here's a picture of one inked up with copper metallic pigment.... look how that pops!
If you're interested in seeing some artwork created with OnyxXpressions stamps, we have a gallery on SCS, and another one on Webshots with still more to view.
