Hi, I saw a great card using aluminium foil and would like to know the technique - ink is put on foil - do U use the foil as a card base or do U run cardstock over the foil? I am confused! Thanks
Can you show us a picture of the card? I'm having trouble imagining what it might look like! I would think you'd stick foil to card as it wouldn't stand up on its own but it sounds intriguing! (I've used foil as a card accent before and scribbled over with alcohol-based markers - it's here in the gallery if you want to see how that works out.)
Hi Valda, did you click on the link for her blog, it gives the instructions there ?
The foil is a layer on top of the base card. The picture is a little larger so easier to see. BTW I hope you well and creating up a storm LOL
I recently did a class where we used tin foil. We glued a piece of cardstock to the foil and then wrapped the foil edges under. Then we ran the piece through a cuttlebug folder. Works like a charm and makes the foil very stable with no loose edges.
Since then I've been playing w/ alcohol inks and staining the embossed foil. Lots of pretty combinations!
well, i was intrigued.....did it and it came out great !! havnet done anything yet with the 2 pieces....i almost hate to put anything on it, so different. thanks for the suggestion
Just tried another technique by Stampndaly - splot reinkers of your choice, including gold onto transparency. Place another transparency on top and squeeze around to spread the colour. Pull transparencies apart and place inkiest onto black shiny cardstock - or vellum or white shiny cardstock and voila - a stunning background. I actually pulled my transparency down the cardstock and got a more streaky swirly look. It was suggested that you clear emboss it but this I did and it wiped out the vibrant colour (damn!) so I will try heat drying it instead.
Aren't techniques wonderful!
Incidentally, I don't have alcohol inks!!! (durrrrr) so will have to wait to do the technique I initially asked about!!
I'm going to try to see if I can upload this Word file I made from a technique using alcohol inks and aluminum foil. I got it from here (not sure when) and is says Suzy. I think it is what you were looking for.
Will either of SU!'s ink stick to the foil? Or must it be alcohol?
Yes, it needs to be alcohol ink to stick to foil. If you want to play cheaply, you can pick up a pack of markers designed for writing on CDs (I'm guessing a dollar store would have them, our equivalent does) - that will usually give you red, blue, black and green to play with. You can scribble patches of colour onto the foil with them and if you want to spread it around and mix a little, try dabbing with a little rubbing alcohol on a cloth.
Sorry I can't share the Beaded Foil technique yet as I submitted it to the Technique Junkies, but haven't gotten a reply from them yet. I now have to get a reply from them before I can release the technique. Sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned it till I knew if TJ was going to use it. I just wanted you all to know that you can use other inks. When I get a reply, I will keep you posted or print the technique.
I wonder how SCS gave me the title Glitter Queen under my name as I really don't like working with glitter.
Here is a card I did with foil. I adhered the foil to CS with my Xyron, colored it with alcohol inks, ran it through the CB with a CB folder then rubbed the darker ink over the raised part. The scan never does great with shiney stuff.

Titles are automatic and change according to how many posts you've made. Keep chatting and post some comments in the gallery and you'll soon get rid of the glitter!
This is a great tech... I'll have to give it a try... I am always looking for new ways to use my alcohol ink... check out Tim Holtz's blog today - he has a great tech with alcohol ink and fragments...
Hi. I made a scrapbook page title with this technique. It would work also on a card.
Used chipboard letters to spell out Summer. Dripped and swirled alcohol inks on the heavy duty foil. Let dry. Cut into squares. Wrapped the chipboard letters with the colored foil and a little glue. Smoothed with bone folder. Attached to page. Turned out beautiful!
Hope this helps and I will post a picture later tomorrow!

Technique Junkies is going to use the Beaded Foil Technique in their December newsletter so watch for it there.
Dye inks do work on foil, but some inks work better than others. I just did a practice piece using dye inks on the foil and Ancient Page dye ink worked very well while some of the others I tried did work, but not as well. I used Brillience on the ones I did for the Beaded Foil technique.
Thank you Angelnorth for letting me know why I had glitter title and how I can get rid of it.
