Default Opinions please. Ink Pads or Markers?

I am trying to collect all of the Stampin' Up colors. I have the Stampin' Pastels and most of the Prismacolor pencils that match SU colors for coloring stamped images. I have about half of the colors of ink pads, seven SU markers and about 20 Marvy LePlume markers for inking the stamps.

I use stamps with both cards and scrapbooks.

My questions:

Should I collect the rest of the ink pads before getting the rest of the markers?

Which way is more versatile and/or cost effective: ink pads or markers?

Thanks for any and all opinions or suggestions.

Debbie

I would think you would get more use from the pads. It all depends on how you use the pads and how you use the markers. Hope this helps. I just posted a thread about the prisma's vs. su colored pencils, why do you like the prisma's? Maybe you can read my thread and answer. Thank you *~*

I would vote for the markers---less expensive and very versatile. I have all the markers and all the spots in craft ink. I use them for scrapbooking and stamping. Just my $.02 : )

IMHO the ink pads are more versatile. You can stamp with them and you can watercolor with them using either a blender pen or aquapainter. I certainly find myself using my classic ink pads much more frequently than my markers.

I find the markers to be *much* more versatile than the pads. To watercolor, I scribble the markers onto an old cd and apply the color with a blender pen. Markers also let you easily get more than one color onto a stamp, which gives depth to the image.

Totally agree! I also like that I can distress edges and accent raised designs by swiping the paper. I personally don't care for the look of stamps "inked up" with markers - the images always look splotchy to me. They're still nice for coloring things in and writing in messages, though.

wow! tough choice! I would say look at your own habits...which do you use more??? since you own some of each.

When I started stamping, I thought the markers were a must have....and my first purchase. Now I use them occassionally for coloring. Even most of my coloring is done with an aquabrush.

I use the pads....all the time. So, I would vote pads.

I agree with Kathy in that you need to look carefully at what you do. When I first started, I got all the ink pads. Then the markers, finally the pencils. I have to say that I rarely use the ink pads unless I am doing a background or distressing the edges. Funny too when I do this...I tend to use the same colors, they are my favs. Other than that, most of my images are done in Stazon black, or a nice SU brown. very basic and I add color to my stuff using markers and pencils.

You really need to see what will work for you. Look at your stamping habits. Would you use more markers or would you use more pads? Good luck!

I agree too. This is how I use my ink pads, in addition to inking my edges. The markers are great for those stamps where you want to color in different colors. I use them a lot for Garden Silhouettes. That being said, I have a lot more ink pads than markers.

Another vote for ink pads here. I just personally think there's more you can do with them.

I would for sure say Ink Pads. I have a complete set of 48 and I am very happy with it. I do not have ANY markers and I don't really see myself investing in them. I rarely put more than one ink color on my stamps and if I do I can just 'rock and roll' them!

Default markers or pads

I use both all the time. But if I could only have one, and had enough of each to get by overall, I'd go with the pads. Better coverage, reinkability, and you can use them as markers as well with blender type pens or instruments, and you can watercolor easily with them as well. Cindy
