Lightbulb Holiday Cards for Recovering US Soldiers

I just received an email suggesting that when sending holiday cards this year to remember to send one (or more) to a soldier who can use some extra cheer as they recover from injuries.

The email says to address cards this way:

A Recovering American Soldier

c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

These people need all of the good cheer and goodwill that we can give them.
I thought it was a good idea to share here.

Not that I don't think this is a wonderful idea but they do not accept "Any Soldier" addressed mail nor will the postal service deliver it. Please see this notice from the official Walter Reed Medical Center Website:

wwwDOTwramc.amedd.army.mil/Lists/WRNews/DispForm.aspx?Id=24&
(replace DOT with a period...I STILL can't post links)

Excerpt:
Quote:

...Walter Reed will not be accepting these packages in support of the decision by then Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Transportation Policy in 2001. This decision was made to ensure the safety and well being of patients and staff at medical centers throughout the Department of Defense.

In addition, the U.S. Postal Service is no longer accepting Any Service Member or Any Wounded Service Member letters or packages. Mail to Any Service Member that is deposited into a collection box will not be delivered.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I don't want anyone to waste postage/time etc.

My DD made many cards last year and we sent them to Walter Reed Hospital and they were all returned, unopened. It is sad but I completely understand - the soldiers' & hospital personnel's safety is very important.

Thank you for letting me know this!!
It's too bad the place won't just open them and hang them on a public billboard, but oh well...

If you want to send a holiday card to service members, go to anysoldier.com. You can pick out the names you want by reading the troops posts and send off your cards.

Operation Quiet comfort always, always needs get well/thinking of you/patriotic/thank you for your service cards for the troops recovering in the combat support hospitals in the battlefield. no envelopes are needed, no glitter or feathers can be used, and the cards must have a personal message written in them. They can be mailed to Operation Quiet comfort, PO Box 700325, Plymouth, Michigan 48170
