I remember seeing a baby card once that you put a penny in the card that was made in the year baby is born and then there was a poem about it that ended something like "And on your wedding day, along with 'something old & new', This bride is to have, This lucky penny in her shoe". Has anyone seen this and does anyone know where I can find a sample of it?
Babys First Penny
Babys First Penny
Heres babys first penny,
So shiny, bright and new,
Just staring out in life
Like newborn babies do.
Its meant to bring good fortune
During the years that lie ahead.
To be treasured as a keepsake
Until your child is wed.
Then on that day most special,
With "something old and new,"
The bride is meant to carry
A lucky penny in her shoe.
Whether she should be your daughter
Or your sons intended wife,
The promise of good fortune
Will charm their married life.

Dorinda thanks so much for sharing your example. I have a mommy/baby shower to go to on Saturday. This is the perfect idea!

HTH ... and I plan to make one with all the poems being posted as I still need to send a card for my cousin's baby girl and a nephew is expecting a girl later this year. Also a customer (that works with my DH) is pregnant so I can feature this at the next event she attends!

I found this when I went to Ask. com. It is titled A Keepsake Treasure for Baby.
This shiny new penny, dated the year you were born is meant to be a keepsake to treasure through the years. And on your wedding day along with "something old & new", this bride is to have this lucky penny in her shoe.
Thanks everyone for telling me what the poem is. Now has anyone seen a sample of this kind of card on the internet? I can't seem to find one showing just how they "mounted" the penny and the poem. Thanks again.

There is a link to a card in Post 13 in this thread.
I recently traveled to Slovenia, where the Slovenian penny has a stork carrying a baby on it! I saved one to give my new neighbor's baby. Thanks for the neat poems, I'll definately use that!
I just had a baby shower favor published in the Aug/September 2007 issue of the Scrap & Stamp Arts mag, along with many other artists, but I don't recall seeing any with pennies in them. Great idea! By the way, I have a thread with lots of other poems listed too. See my siggie below for the link.
