I don't know about the gold colors, but the ones I use most are black and white.

I have a drawer full of powders I never use. The only ones I really use anymore are black, white and clear. Transcendence (clear) EP is wonderful because you can emboss dye inks with it.

I used ultra-fine plain gold. I get mine at Hobby Lobby, AC Moore or Michael's. Just use your Versamark pad with it. Works great for me!

I use clear the most. It takes on whatever color pigment ink you used to stamp the image.
I bought a second jar and added a little spoon of glitter to it. It adds just the right amount of sparkle but isn't as much as the powders that are sold with the glitter already in it.

I would say that clear and white would probably be my most used powders. Black is a close runner-up. I also like gold, silver or copper for holiday cards. Irridescent Ice is one of my faves as well. It is beautiful to cover a design with for a Dazzling Diamonds technique. Embossing powders last a very long time. You can do a LOT of projects out of one container. I would suggest buying a few and then adding slowly as you need them. The powder itself doesn't seem to "go bad". I've had some powder for more than ten years and it still works fine. As far as cost goes, it is a very inexpensive product for the amount you will be able to use it.

HTH!

I use Transcendence for my clear, and use black, white, gold. Sometimes I mix just a tiny bit of gold in with the white. It's a nice touch. ;-)

I just ordered my first embossing powders (they should be in today!!) and I got white, black and clear...I figured they are the most versatile...

I can't wait to try them!

I have mostly Stampendous 1 oz jars from Michaels. I use Hologram, Stardust, Pirate Gold, Silver & White extensively. I do have bunch of other colors like Pale Gold, Pale Silver, Copper, Black, Detail White, tinsel Gold, tinsel Red etc but I use them less often.

If u r going for Gold and Silver, don't go for the ones that has "Pale or Soft" in their names, they are very subdued and not my taste.

The 1 oz jars last a long time (i haven't re-stocked any in 3 years and still have lots left).

In my opinion, you should be good with a Clear, Black, White, Gold, Silver, Copper (if itz ur thing) and one Clear with Glitter (e.g hologram or Irridecent or Stardust etc).

My favorite colors for embossing are Clear and Black. I sometimes use Gold and Silver too. I think any basic gold or silver would be fine.

I found some recently called Golden Sand. It is supposed to look like sand when you use it. I can't wait to try it on beach type stamps. My LSS didn't have it, and I had to go to Archivers.

Clear detail ep is also good for those stamps that have a lot of detail.

I use clear, white, black and copper more than the others. I do have gold, silver, dazzling diamonds that I reach for, but more at the holidays. I have a few colors like red, green, purple.. but rarely, if ever, use them.

If you're looking for a teriffic gold EP you might what to look for Egyptian Gold by Judikins. This is by far my favorite gold EP. This EP is so sparkly and pretty and it's great for holiday cards and it hasn't tarnished like so many of my other gold EPs.

I'm a big fan of gold, and I use both fine detail and regular. There's a cloisonne technique, where you use versamark and stamp over colored areas from Magazines/catalogs, then emboss with gold, cut out and use on cards that is drop dead gorgeous! I took a sample card I made to our group and they went nuts!!!

You have to have them all! I have ammassed a nice collection by buying them at Joann's and Michaels's with coupons. All my neighbor kids love to emboss and one of the prettiest colors is red dragon- available at Michaels's. Queen's gold by Ranger is a good one too. Have fun!

All you really need are Clear Fine Detail and UTEE clear. You can color them with Perfect Pearls and make any color you like.

I LOVE SU embossing powders. Some of mine are 10 years old & still working. Pays to buy quality since they last so long. I use Gold, Silver, Clear, Black & white more than any.
If you can only get one or two, I'd go with Gold & Black. I love Copper too. Sorry to see SU get rid of it. Right now I'm doing tons of embossed black "Lovely as a Tree" on Perfect plum for the Indiana get together.

I have bought the clear in a large jar & poured into a tupperware (lunch meat) container with a plastic spoon to make it easier to use. But then I have SU Craft pads, Encore, etc. that I use it on. I've had that for years too. This stuff lasts a long time. That's another thing I like about SU stamps. The rubber doesn't dry out & I've got used stamps that I bought & they were out of the catty by 1996.

I like JudiKins embossing powders, especially their Egyptian Gold. That's my favorite metallic EP. Also use a lot of black EP which forms a nice "well" for coloring the image with watercolors. A lot of stamp and scrap stores carry this line and they have an Internet site as well.

Smile I use Stampin Up ,Ranger & Adirondack brands

I bought some silver ranger brand embossing powder and love it. It works up so nice and melts real pretty. I also found some adirondack brand embossing powder in eggplant and love using this with my lovely as a tree SU stamps as a great alternative color to use instead of black. As I said earlier....my white SU embossing powder is my all time fave. I couldn't imagine card making without embossing. Happy Embossing !! Beckaroni ;)

I go through more EP than any other supply...well with the exception of cardstock and envelopes. I use every color. I find that SU ones are much higher quality than what I've bought at Michael's and JoAnn's. I am saddened that SU no longer sells the detail powders...and must find a new source for those. I use clear the most, because I use it over craft inks..to show the color. I also use a ton of SU gold, black, silver, and white. I also use, but have to replace less often...the irredesent and copper. The only one I seldom use is the glassy EP. I don't think SU even sells it anymore.
