Default Tips for taking better pictures

Okay I'll admit it. I've noticed a trend between the cards I view in the gallery and the quality of the photograph. I'm just drawn to cards that look professional ie. good lighting, angle etc. Anyone else like this?

So my question is... how do you do it? I find my photos usually end up dark and dull. What are some tips to make your cards look better in photos??

Thanks ladies!

I know that there have been threads on this before. I examined the cards whose photos I liked and concluded that having a solid background helps, taking the picture on an angle helps, and I use adobe photshop to edit the picture. Frankly, my iMac iphoto edited is almost as well, but the photoshop is fun to play around with. Many recommend taking pictures in daylight. I've had the best luck taking them on my living room mantle because there is good lighting there. Take a bunch and experiment! Good luck!

my best photos are the ones I've taken outside in natural light but not bright sunlight as that can tend to wash out the colors.

I'm with you...I love cards that look like they are professionally photographed. My tip would be to find other items to include in the picture that works with the theme of the card. i.e. hearts and lace for Valentine cards, candles and cupcakes with birthday cards. I also try to use natural light as much as possibl...or my natural light lamp (OTT) for the best lighting.
