I will have my DD draw on sunday to give it away... just go to my blog and enter. that just helps me know haw many numbers to create to draw... easire to track!
I love you, but we don't allow promotional postings like that in the forums :^)
not to mention your signature, another rule breaker. links are fine, promotional language isn't. you're pretty much a rebel all the way around :^)
I've seen others give away free stamps on their blogs and post the info here. There was huge Michael's dollar stamp promo on an SCSr's blog just a week ago and it was all over SCS. Is that not allowed?

Huh! I didn't know if wasn't allowed either. Lisa Lisa has done it before and I thought it was allowed. Maybe there are some rules that I haven't read and should? I guess I'm confused as to why that would be any different than someone showing that they are a CTMH or TAC or SU consultant in their siggie.

I am not promoting anything but having fun and paying something forward. I did not contact any company or work for Tsukineko asking hem to send me this FOR them to get anything. I got extra product and it would cost me the same to send it back to them or somone else. I am brave enough to ask... and they didn't mind. Now someone else can play with a spectrum pad.
I'm sorry Lisa and I'm don't want the ink pad!! I see promotional tag lines for all sorts of things including posts for the software someone sells for SU demos, non stamping financial endeavors. It would be helpful to have the rules a bit clearer and enforced across the board. Just my 2 cents!!

this is a hard one, and admittedly difficult to administer in a way that everyone considers fair. and I certainly won't say that it's always been administered evenly, because I'm sure it hasn't.
it's kind of like the signatures issue. if we didn't try to restrict it in some way, signatures would be full of animation, blinkie stuff, huge graphics, countdown timers, you've probably seen similar on other sites. at some point it's just too much. the difficulty is in drawing a line somewhere. is 12 pt. text okay, but 13 pt. not okay? is a 3 line signature okay, but 4 lines not okay?
promotional postings are very similar, in that just about any enthusiastic recommendation can be construed by someone as "promotional". we've tried to spell out some of this in the terms of service, you can find the link in the page footer.
there are some key distinctions. if I'm hanging around in the forums and I wanna post and say "I got a great deal at Michael's today!" well, there's nothing wrong with that. if I'm an employee of Michaels and I say "come on over to Michaels" that's a problem.
why? why do we need these dumb rules? it's the slippery slope thing again, and also perceived fairness. if we don't try to enforce it the promotional stuff increases and increases, people just can't help themselves. if there were 10 people here, it wouldn't be a problem. but when you can post something and 1000 people will read it in an afternoon, people want to plug their stuff. the temptation of the microphone. so yeah, at one point it wasn't a big deal, but it's a bigger deal nowadays. along with that we have to try and be fair and apply the same rules across the board.
I'm *really* feeling like a killjoy here. and my apologies in advance Lisa, this probably would have been better handled in a private conversation. I'm sure you feel like I'm calling you out and I'm completely regretting that right at this moment. eesh.

I didn't realize that it was all right to link to 2 commecial sites. I'm not sure what a referral link is. If someone is just giving something away, not sure how that fits in. Not a biggie for me but it was helpful to re read the rules.

Are referral links like when someone says, "Where do I get xyz cleaner?" and someone else says, go to "www.inkyantics.com"? I don't want to be violating stuff left and right.

referral links are "sign up to win a free iPod!". referral programs where you sign up and then recruit others to sign up under you. we'll clarify that.

if I'm an employee of Michaels and I say "come on over to Michaels" that's a problem.
I am not an employee of or represent Tsukineko in any way... not on a DT or even do freelance work for them. I was simply trying to do something nice. I am not being compensated by them for anything in any way.
My blog is not a place of business.. I do not sell anything there... it is a place where I share about things I am creating... my thoughts... pics of my family and samples of . it's a place for me to just be me and be excited about life. I do have a professional website... I have never linked to that because I do use that site to promote my design work and it is strictly business. My Blog is a place for me to share... and that was what I was trying to do. There is NO benefit to me for giving it away... it will actually cost me postage money. I posted the thread to spread the fun... I don't get any monetary compensation for people visiting my blog so I am still quite confused about why this was being considered promotional. So will threads be deleted when people post a link to a card asking for input? will people with their demonstrator-ships in their signature be deleted?
Quote:
absolutely right Lisa, none of those threads should've been allowed. and dang, how'd you find them all so fast?
they are easy to find Daven... people are doing this type of fun thing because it feels good to share. like uploading cards into a SCS gallery... sharing. I truly believe that SCS has instilled that in us... the desire to share and give back to a community that we love. That is why we love SCS and I am a bit shocked that we are being discourage to follow your lead.
We love you, Lisa! I have your blog bookmarked cause I love it too! I'm a little confused! Sometimes people post things like "Sign up for a free scrapbook" and they link to a site that is giving away a scrapbook. They are not related to the site, they just found it and wanted to share. Is that not okay? I've followed those links and have received free stuff! I love free stuff!
Lisa I just had to tell you that I looked at your blog and DANG girl! What a beautiful headliner picture you picked. Wow wow wow! How vivid and gorgeous! Hmmm... I must stay and read more...

That's really no different that somebody posting about a clearance sale at Hobby Lobby. Assuming, of course, that the poster isn't connected to Hobby Lobby, that is! I think that's really the key...it's when there is a connection that it could get difficult to establish right vs. wrong, especially when you have 90,000+ members!
How to police? Well, maybe just by prohibiting it for everybody, simply because there's too much potential for abuse. Sorta like that pesky "edit" button... There simply isn't the manpower available to keep an eye on ALL of the posts to be able to judge on an individual basis, kwim? Better to not have them. In the long run, everyone's happier.
Before you say it, NO, I'm not saying or implying anything bad about Lisa, lol. I KNOW that her whole thing is coming from a wonderful, "share the wealth," kind of attitude on her part. Far too many other people are NOT as altruistic as Lisa, though. It's a burden on SCS to have to keep tabs on this kind of thing.
In this case, I think it would only be fair to say, that all Demo's, CTMH, SU, TAC eyc., should not be able to post their wesbistes in their Signature lines either.
Is that the case?
