You could also do shaving cream backgrounds in different greens and browns (old olive, garden green, creamy caramel). It isn't the exact same, but you get the idea and it is fun to do.

That is my suggestion too. I inked my VersaMark cartridge over three or four days, putting a medium coat on each time and then letting it soak in before adding more ink. It worked well for me.
