I've gone to spots. It's great. The only time I regret it is when I need to use a big background stamp. So, you might keep the full size pads in a few of your favorite colors for backgrounds.

You might try washing them with a mild detergent...

You might try washing them with a mild detergent and letting them air dry (so you don't get lint from your towel stuck to them). That has solved this problem for me (with other clear stamp brands).
