Default New (factory made) MISTI vs old MISTI - difference in care and cleaning?

Hi everyone

So, I recently got the MISTI. Mine is the new type, made in a factory. I read a lot about the MISTI and recommended accessories and cleaning/care for the MISTI before purchasing. But now I wonder how much of what I do/don't do with my MISTI, that is different, or not necessary at all, for the new type that I have? I am mostly eager to hear if there are any stamp cleaners that I can safely use on the MISTI lid, as I sometimes have stubborn ink that won't get off with my current method (see below).

If any of you can share any insight into these things I do, in terms of if they are good/bad/necessary/not necessary with the new MISTI, I would very much appreciate that!
- I use a foam mat under the lid when inking up a stamp, in order to put less stress on the lid when inking
- I added two thin pieces of cardstock at the bottom of my MISTI, to raise the base up higher and making it closer to the stamp once the lid is closed. That way I don't have to push as hard on the lid of the MISTI to make the stamp meet the paper it is stamping on
- I don't use any stamp cleaner products on the lid, neither on the inside or on the outside. Instead I spritz the stamp+lid with water and gently scrub with the scrubber from the bottom of my Hero Arts scrubber pad. I dab excess water off with a paper towel, and wipe the rest off with a soft cloth. I also bought a small bottle of the Novus, but at the moment I'm not sure why I would use that and how to use that...

I would also love to hear about other helpful things regarding care and cleaning of my MISTI, so feel free to share that too =)

There's no difference - acrylic is acrylic. I use Stampin' Up! Stampin' Mist to clean off ink while I'm working, and then Novus when I'm done - the Novus is really the best cleaner, so if you just used that on the lid you'd be fine.

Is the novus used to remove ink from the acrylic? Or is it just a conditioner for the acrylic? Just curious!

Thanks for this thread. Im trying to decide about buying a misti. I hesitate to buy things when there are many add ons or absolute restrictions. Im a buyer of good to go stuff and recent having to buy more or put something together before use. So I am looking forward to more comments.

Both - it's a plastic polish so it cleans & shines

So can Novus be found at a hardware store or Home Depot?

I believe so - it's also on Amazon.

The Novus 2 is kind of neat too - it's actually a scratch remover. Great for glasses, etc.

I've been using Novus for years-on framed pics that have plastic instead glass. (Acrylic will fog over time if you dont use the right cleaner). I like it a lot. You could use on xmas orns or anything really that is plastic. So dont feel like you only have it for the Misti.

I just finally took mine out of the box... holidays and then I lost my mom so have been very uninspired. Mine has a Made in China sticker on it - so does that mean it's a newer factory made?? I got it on the Black Friday special.
I'm hoping to try it out now that I finally got it out of the box.

Ohhh, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom... that would definitely take the sparkle out of a new toy. :(

The newer factory-made editions are made in China.

Thanks Dina...been very difficult. We were very close and shared a lot...including our love of crafts and stamping. So it's a loss on many levels. Nobody like your mother. :(
