MY MISTI ARRIVED TODAY!!!!!!!! Ahhhh, ok now I've got that out of my system, I'm trying to remember all the wonderful ways I've seen people stamp with MISTI in the umpteen videos I've watched since last fall when I first started wanting this fabulous invention.
I've seen Lydia's terrific example of aligning 2-step rubber stamps, using a psuedo-stampamajig imaging sheet taped to MISTI's border.
In general, though, when using unmounted rubber stamps, are folks just placing them down on the card, picking up with the lid, then stamping away -- basically taking the approach to your layout that you would if you were using the stamp on an acrylic block? With, of course, the bonus of being able to re-stamp if the first try isn't fully inked, etc.?
Or is there some further magic I should be aware of? For instance, I love how with my clear stamps I can get sentiments STRAIGHT for once by seeing through them on the grid. But has anyone found a magic way to get rubber sentiments straight (other than going the psuedo-stampamajig route...). I'd love to be able to take advantage of MISTI's square-cornering abilities if there were a way to "see through" the rubber and line the sentiment up properly the way I can with a clear sentiment... Wondering if some clever soul has figured out a way.;)
Duh, I already found an answer to the sentiment issue (I thought I'd seen some nifty way to do it -- turns out it's an actual My Sweet Petunia video!). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDd-c5ql6Fc#t=92
But I'm still interested in hearing how people are planning their creations with red rubber on MISTI. Any insights, tips, favourite tricks, etc.?

Not yet, I still need to print grids onto transparencies. Looking forward to trying it once I have them done.
But apart from lining up sentiments, I thought it might be interesting to hear of any neat things people are doing with rubber, since it's a little different than stamping with clear.
When I first read about the quilting grid and watched the videos I wasn't sure I would like them but I've changed my mind and I use it almost every time I stamp and I cut one of grids down to use with my SAMJ.
I lay the grid on top of my paper to be stamped, close the MISTI lid to pick up the stamp, ink up the stamp, and stamp back onto the grid. Then I look to see if the stamped image is where I want it. If not, I wipe off the grid, move the stamp, and do it again. Sometimes it takes me a few tries to get the image where I want and then I'll remove the grid and stamp it on the paper. I also use this method to test different colors of ink.

Good to know! For the type of use you describe above, are you using your gridded plastic sheet (such as the ones Maureen Wong cut down for "bumpers") or the blank one from the package that looks more like a SAMJ sheet?
Also, do you attach it with tape to MISTI's side as some have done, or do you just place it on top when you want it?

bumpers version with the grid. I tried taping it to the MISTI and I didn't like it. I don't always need the grid so for me it was in the way. I just store it in the MISTI with foam so it's there when I need it. Also, I cut a couple of bumpers but I forget to use them.
Does it matter if the bumpers are made from the quilting sheets with a grid or without? Just wasn't sure if the grid was actually used when using the bumpers. I have more clear sheets than grid sheets. Any info would be great!

I still don't use the bumpers but unless you need the grid lines for alignment, I wouldn't think it would make any difference.
Can someone enlighten me? What are bumpers? I tried searching on the forum and YouTube, but cannot find out what they are or how to use them with the MISTI. Thanks!!
