Default Skin tones

How do you achieve skin tones? I thought this would be a helpful thread (or sticky) because it is common and not always intuitive.

I use claudine hellmuth paint. I especially like to put a thin layer on dsp (designer series paper) like newsprint and then build the image on top of that.

I use copics - need to go look up the colors.

I use a dsp pack from prisma which has a variety of skin tones.

I have a not-yet released product from stampin up! Called Blendabilities

I use prisma color colored pencils - need to go look up the colors.

I use old retired cardstock from stampin up ... Have to go look that up too :/

I'll come back with more detail but I am curious what do you use?

I use several different paints as there doesn't seem to be a manufactured skin tone that is realistic. I don't tend to paint on paper but whenever i have I gesso over the sketched part of where the paint would be to have a true white surfaces with which to work on. I know some people prefer something tinted but for some unknown reason it throws me way off. I like tinted paper if I am using pastels though.

If you like to use pencils, the Skin Tone pack by Lyra is great for a whole range of ethnicities. Apparently they were originally developed for pre-school kids to be able to colour pictures of themselves and their friends so they're a chunky pencil. Blick carries them (here, currently out of stock but back later this month) and I guess others do too. They're the soft, blendable type of pencil (like Prismacolor) rather than water-soluble.

I tend to use those or Copics if I'm colouring people.

I like the "peachy" color of the Gelatos. Sometimes I mix it with different shades of brown.

I use Sanford Prism Portrait Colored Pencil Set (24) and get good results:
