Have you ever had one of those days or weeks where it gets worse by the minute? That was this week for me. So I went to Joannes and bougt myself the Tim Holtz mixed media scissors reg priced $16.99, but on sale 40% off sale price $10.25, then I saw the Tim Holtz Clockworks stencil $6.99 and I had a 40% off coupon! So I left spending $15 and change pretty much getting the stencil for free.
definitely made a bad week end great! Now to create!!!
So Im wondering what have you bought lately specifically for your mixed media. You're must have purchase.
Mine was super expensive. I just got an A5 Metropol Filofax. I am using it for a more clean art journal. A beautiful set of Fiskars gel pens. I am ordering Fashion magazine subscriptions left and right.
I was there the other day, and they had a nice little section of scrapbooking supplies, some Opalite and Versamagic pads on clearance, and 6" paper pads for $3. I picked up a few.
Well that store definitely threw me. Its like a smaller version of a Marshalls or TJMaxx, but cleaner. Had lots of things, 3GYPSIES, TimHolt, Martha Stewart, Prima flowers. Very low prices! Lots of great things. Some how I left empty handed. Oh well now I know.
Was hoping to do a clockwork page today, but the weather is finally so nice in Mass we're going letterboxing instead!
My latest mad and furious mixed media purchases have been online from Stencil Girl, Artistcellar, and Michelle Ward. I also purchased a whole bunch of neon glitter and neon Ink from Amazon and neon acrylic paints from Michaels (on sale .36/ea!).
I had to AVOID this thread this past week because I was so mad at dh. He left a pen in a pocket evidently so I ended up with ink on my washer, dryer and a few clothes. Ironically my stuff seem to get the ink on them not his, grrr.
Now normally this would have cost him and I would have been buy myself rewards left and right but we had some major expenses last month so I'm trying to be good. I did buy a pack of beautiful paper for a whopping 99 cents at Tuesday Mornings and then used every bit of restraint to not buy anything else.
all I can say is it's a good thing I'm a stamper and have ink cleaning products in the house...

I just started taking a mixed media class that a friend teaches out of her home. I loved it. She uses a lot of stencils so I am buying them when I have some extra money (on sale of course). I have been looking at a lot of my die cuts and so many of them can be used for making stencils. I went to a thrift store and bought a lot of playing cards in different sizes after seeing a Pin on making your own stencils.
We also used PanPastels and I LOVE them. But those I have on my wish list for mothers day.
I had a stroke 2.5 years ago, so I justify the little I can buy now as good therapy as it affected my right side. And it is really helping me. Plus it keeps me busy and off the streets. LOL
I really like that we now have a board specifically for this.

I love finding new ways to use what I already have in my stash, I think I see a dollar store trip in my near future....
Of course it could backfire too, now I'm thinking of all the dies I need so I can make stencils. I could dust off that hot knife that is sitting around some where and use it to make stencil with too, naw... too much work, lol.

LOL!!! That is so true. Now if I am thinking about a die cut purchase, if I can use it to also make a stencil, then in is more justifiable.
I am also looking for larger sized laminated cards to make larger stencils.
I do draw the line at cutting my own stencils by hand. Too much like fussy cutting which I hated to do even before my stroke.
I will post some pics of my stencils when I get some done. I hope to encourage others to do the same.

My latest "bing" spending was at a stamp store that needed to close - she had many no longer available stamps!!!
You are lucky to find "art" supplies at Tueday Morning. The ones I have been to have only had a very small stock of third rate products. Othewise everything else is great.
I just returned from England and I visited Art from the Heart and the day I was there, Dyan Reaveley was in the store selling - apparently not a regular thing. I bought a couple of her stencils, a stamp set and one of her fabulous journals which she autographed for me! I was thrilled to meet her and came away with all sorts of tips from her. Now to give it all a try!
Several months ago, I went to a locally owned stamp shop, and the owner did a Gelli plate demo. So I recently purchased a Gelli Print Plate and several stencils from her. Then I went to Michaels and got some acrylic paints and canvasses. So, I played one day with it and have printed several pages to use for cards. Since watching the videos in these threads, I need to get it all out again and try some more.
I was on a shopping trip with ladies from church as we get going on VBS preps (I'm in charge of crafts). I showed great control and mostly stayed on track for the items I needed for the spy-themed VBS, but I did find a couple of "must-haves" in the clearance section. I picked up a couple of Heidi Swapp sprays, a couple of rolls of Washi tape and a few dimensional stickers.
Love the idea of the playing card stencils-they would store nicely and the waxy surface would be protected....I often keep the reverses of diecuts to use as stencils, but they're a one time use only.
My birthday is coming up and I REALLY hope my family has listened to my pleas for a Gelli plate!

Lol, I hear you, I rarely find anything either but evidently others do as it's mentioned here often. I only find things if: I go to the "right store" but that right store in never the same one and all the planets & the moon are aligned just right, aka hardly ever.
Piano5678, wow what an incredible experience for! A trip to England was probably already memorable and special but I'll bet that was the "cherry on top" for you.
Another thing you can use for stencils are Tyvek envelopes. I save the ones I receive stamps in and cut them with my silhouette. Metals dies would work marvelouly also.

I will tell you what letterboxing is: Here is a link to Atlas Quest that describes better than me what it is.
My daughter introduced me to it. You carve your own stamps and hide boxes with logbooks. Then you get clues from Atlas Quest to find a box. You stamp your signature stamp in their logbook and stamp their stamp in your logbook, and then rehide for next person. It is a great activity, especially with grandkids. But my DH and I have gone on our own, even on Alaskan and Canadian cruises!
Letter boxing is when someone hides a plastic box with a stamp and guest book somewhere. You use their clues to find the box. When you do find it you stamp their guest book with your team stamp. Lots of fun and free. Check out atlas quest.com for lists of boxes and clues.
We do them everywhere when we travel.
We love it. It's free, gets us outside and walking.
I went shopping......in my supply closet. I found my watercolors and some had tubes of watercolors in them, I gave my watercolor pencils to my granddaughter but now I have the set I bought ages ago. Wonndering if I can make Dylusion Spray out of water colors? Hmmmm.
I've not tried it yet but several people have mentioned making their own with watercolors. I say try it and see what happens.
I have done it with food coloring before and it worked well. I also forgot to rinse out a jar of "dirty" water once after using H2O's and ended up with lots of sparkly stuff on the bottom of the jar that I re-hydrated and used with reg watercolors, then added that to the food color spray I had.
I'd managed not to buy anything for quite a while and then had a little splurge just recently - oops!
It started small (a package of mini misters as my last one just gave up the ghost). Then I bought the Tim Holtz Apothecary Bottles die. Then the Mama Elephant Confetti die that was out of stock everywhere happened to be in stock in Singapore while DH was there for a conference so it would have been rude not to get it. A couple of Perfect Pearls got added to that to make it worthwhile getting it shipped to his hotel ;) Then I may have been tempted into a small selection of Fresco Finish acrylic paints from Paper Artsy.
In my defence, I've used the bottles die and two of the paints already and don't yet have the Mama Elephant die in hand. The misters, on the other hand, have not yet made it out of the kitchen where I open mail and into the craft room!

Thanks for the laugh - this comment cracked me up !!!
We most certainly do not want to be rude, so better to make the purchase than to risk rude behavior........I am going to use this as a buying excuse for sure heehee.
Sidenote: I just got some of the fresco paints from paper artsy too - cant wait to try them. Got the grunge paste too. I love the paper artsy youtube demos. I really like the jofy stamp image line (oops, i may have gotten a few of those stamp sets...)

Which colours did you get? I had trouble slimming it down to a reasonable number! I got Orchid, Spanish Mulberry, Tinned Peas, Hey Pesto, Mermaid, Snowflake and some of the crackle finish. They do have a lovely, very matt finish (the greens I got are semi-opaque and translucent so it's less obvious wth those).
I've resisted the JOFY stamps so far but I've seen some lovely stuff done with them. Jo FY herself has stuff regularly in Craft Stamper magazine here in the UK and of course she uses her own stamp line sometimes - very talented lady!
I just bought almost all of the Dylusions sprays. And a tub of gel medium. And another tub of gel medium because they really are different and I really do need both of them. And some charcoal pencils. I'd better get off the computer and back into my art room before I buy anything else.
I'm off to Tuesday Morning today. I heard they have paper and other interesting things. Anyone shop there before? I guess it's a Christian store..
As far as I know Tuesday Morning is not really a "Christian store." Here is what Wiki says:
Tuesday Morning Corporation is an upscale, deep-discount retailer specializing in domestic and international, designer and name-brand closeout merchandise with its headquarters in Dallas, Texas.[1]
The chain traditionally has relied on direct marketing, (including mail and e-mail), but also advertises in newspapers.

Great idea for small shapes. I just used the Spellbinder fancy lattice die to make a stencil with a piece from a cereal box. I've given it a coat of Mod Podge each side in the hope that will make it more durable - I'll let you know if it disintegrates after a couple of uses! I wanted something thicker than an acetate sheet (which is what I often use) as I wanted to use modeling paste with it (I've just blogged the result here as well as adding it to my gallery if anybody wants to see how it worked out).
