What is collage? It might be called “The Art of Assemblage”…it may also be called your worst nightmare. I’m not sure why but many cardmakers are afraid to make a collage or think they can’t do it. Well I’m going to offer some tips so you won’t feel so intimidated.
-Start with your stamped image or focal point and create around it
-Create a background, place items on top…move them around until you get the look you want….maybe take a picture or carefully lift items off your space and then begin gluing or attaching..
-Try a horizontal layout instead of vertical
-Balance your elements….don’t put everything in one corner
-Remember that a collage can be CAS, you don’t need to pile on the embellishments if you don’t want to
-Add texture in unexpected ways-use liquid pearls, sew a border. Add just a touch of lace or ribbon, stencil just a bit on top of a layer using texture paste or paint
-Use torn edges or sew a border..do the unexpected..
-Stamp your image on patterned paper (use light colored paper and one not too busy)
-Don’t take the process too seriously….be playful, have fun….do what comes naturally
Remember to use two or more mediums on your card. See a list of suggested materials here.
What a great list of tips and suggestions, Polly. The only problem is...it doesn't come naturally to me ;-). I might confine myself to an ATC and see what happens.
Hiya, Polly! So nice to see you up close yesterday. Thanks for the challenge. I really expected this to turn out differently, but my muse had other ideas. MIX365 Bliss by Lori "Artzadoni"
