Default please help with stamp problem

I have a very old and retired Stampin Up! stamp that was never mounted. Now that Im trying to mount it the adhesive is sticking to the paper backing and not the foam. What should I do? Is there a way to get the adhesive to stick to the foam or should I just pull it off and use another adhesive? If so, what kind of adhesive? Crystal Effects or Rubber Cement or something else? Any suggestions are welcome.

will it transfer to the foam if you heat it and burnish it some?

I had this happen with an old set as well. Rubber cement was my solution & worked great.
