Good point! If they do change the spellings for us, I would hope they'd change them for you, too.

As an administrator, I have a highspeed come apart if any teacher/aide sends a handwritten note home to any student/parent that has something spelled incorrectly. All group notes must be approved/reviewed. I do correct grammar of students AND staff. I tell them to correct me also, if need be. My parents spoke the King's English and so do my children. Sad, I know. Now if we could do something about fix TV/movies and songwriters!

I am noticing more and more companies that seem not to proofread before sending images to be made into rubber. The infamous "your" instead of "you're" really kind of shocked me as the people running the company appear to be educated. I cannot understand that several people seeing it would not catch something that glaring.

LOL

And thanks for this thread, I've laughed my way through it. I've read "Eats, Shoots and Leaves" and I have a BS in Psychology (Want fries with that?); I've done unpaid proof-reading (did you know that fund raiser is not one word?), and I've lived in the South. I was always adamantly told that y'all was NOT for just one person. LOL

I also distinguish between blogs and threads here, and professional writings. I only say something in a thread if the typo/misspelling makes me laugh. I tend to visualize as I read, so when someone says they "poured" over the catalog, I wonder just what they poured on their poor catty as they pored over it.

If I was being grammatically correct, I'd say "Does SU" as SU is a company... but I'm too closely involved with SU to think of it as an "it" and tend to think of SU as a "they". But you are correct... of course.

a couple of years ago, my dd had a math teacher that ALWAYS misspelled everything in her weekly newsletter. she was a fifth grade teacher that did team teaching with the 4th grade teacher next door. She did 4th and 5th grade math, and 5th grade everything else.

It was so bad, one of the moms in my dd's class would get a red marker and circle all the spelling and grammar mistakes every week and send it back in.

how do they expect the kids to learn to write properly when they don't?

At the elementary school my kids attended when we lived in Florida, the principal had a weekly note on one side of the lunch menu. It frequently had mistakes. And sure, a secretary typed it and ran it off (she should have caught the mistakes), but the principal's signature was at the bottom.

Sad.

We were at Marble Slab the other day, and there was this huge poster describing their banana splits with freshly "pealed" bananas. AAAGH! Bells peal - bananas are peeled!

Do you know what bugs me??? Stamp sets that use the word color or favorite or neighbor......WE don't spell it like that here in Canada, so the stamp set is completely useless to us!!! Give us a choice....COLOUR, FAVOURITE, NEIGHBOUR........ (I'll stop there!)

Sorry, had to add my spelling rant here too!!!

It is so sad that the people who are misspelling these things are college graduates. Our children's education is in their hands!!!
We have a local newspaper around here that needs a good proof reader. They have grammatical as well as spelling errors constantly! My husband says I ought to tell them about this and get them to hire me!:-D
