Default World's slowest card maker

Help! I think I'm the worlds's slowest card maker. I just made 3 cards. Stamping, some watercoloring and punching, but nothing too labor intensive. It took me 2 hours! What is wrong with me?

yeah -- sounds right to me too -- there will be times that I'm amazed how quickly and easily a card comes together, and other times it seems to take forever. I've even stopped and come back to a card 3 or 4 times over a couple of days just because it wasn't right yet but couldn't think of what to do next. Don't worry -- you're probably closer to the world's BEST card maker ;)

Um, nothing. Just think, you got to spend 2 hours doing what you love. I spent all day cleaning house for my in-laws' visit. You win!!!!!;)

I agree ... 3 cards in 2 hours is GREAT! It usually takes me all evening to get one card done ... but of course I'm on and off of SCS during that time.

I am so glad to hear that. Sometimes I feel like I am overthinking things, but I guess I am not. It takes me forever to find paper that matches and then embellishments I like. Then you still have to color! But, as someone already mentioned--it DOES make me happy ! Thanks for giving encouragement--without even knowing!

3 cards in 2 hrs... I WISH!!! I DO overthink.. but its a good thing! By the time I get my colors picked out, I have to relinquish *table time*. Next session may include choosing and stamping my stamps and a little coloring if I'm lucky. We simply have too many choices of techniques, to punch or not to punch, and an endless array of embellies and bling. It doesn't help that I have Stampin' OCD!
I'm going to start concentrating my time on doing some of the weekly challenges.
I know I'll learn more and they'll probably help me learn to make these major decisions! May God bless, Sandi... the pokey stamper

It takes me a long time to get a card done. If I have someone over for the day we may only get 3 or 4 cards done

You're doing fine time wise if you ask me....some days only a portion of a card gets down in 3 hours. Just enjoy what you're doing, when you're doing it...IMHO that's what it's all about.

That doesn't seem so slow. If you're making different cards, sometimes it just takes that long, by the time you pull out all your stuff, get inspired, cut cardstock, etc, etc. Just have fun!

Uh...once I took THREE WEEKS to make one card. But if I had to add up all the time involved, it was probably about 20 hours (spread out over three weeks). It was 'cause a friend asked me to case a certain card from Take Ten (a magazine) and I just happened to not have a single image that was used on that card so I tried my best to draw/paint them. I'll not be doing that again anytime soon.

But normally, a great card (well, one that I consider great) takes me about 5 hours, though I can crank out mediocre cards in 45 minutes. So, you are really quick compared to me!

From thinking to inking, can take me a day, from then to have a completed card can take another day, so sometimes a couple of days! I usually stamp and colour, then leave it there for a while so i can mull on the layout and papers, then sit back down, then mull over embellishments and sentiments. So the process is a long one for me (bearing in mind I have 2 preschool children as well so actual card making time is very little anyway) but I just love sitting at my desk and pottering away, even if I haven't finished anything in 2 days!

I was in a hurry to make and mail Easter cards so I sat and did four, yes, only four cards in like 2 1/2 hours. Doesn't sound so bad you are thinking. I only made two designs. So really I only created 2 cards.

You are doing fine! I am so glad to know that we can all relate!!!

In most cases, what's the rush? For me the process is just as satisfying (if not more so) as holding the card up and saying, "Done!"

I'm so glad to hear it takes you that long because I usually spend two to three hours or more on a card. If I can complete more than one card in a single day I'm euphoric...

Sometimes when I'm working on a concept things don't start working out as well as I would like so then it becomes a work in progress and I try this and that just trying to get it to work. It is conceivable that one or two card could take 2 or 3 hours. If I am mass producing cards for christmas or a gift set, the first one takes a couple of hours but then when I know what I'm doing and begin the process of cutting cardstock, color images, etc., the subsequent cards go faster. Enjoy the creative process and let it flow.

wow, you're quick! Seriously, I have cards that have taken three hours--for ONE card! Usually, it takes about one hour, thats why I like VSN, it makes me think fast and get some really great ideas. There is nothing wrong with you. If you enjoy that two hours and you have created something new, enjoy your success!

Three cards in two hours? You're Miss Speedy Stamper! It takes me 2 - 3 hours per card most of the time. I emailed a "stamping celeb" last week and asked her how long hers usually took. She said 20-30 minutes. Minutes!!!! I'm in awe. Truly.

Oh my gosh! You are a WIZ! I can spend hours doing one card!
By the time I change the flowers, find the brads, colour my image, find some patterned paper and cut it up, put it back and get other paper, emboss the paper, change the embossed paper to other paper........well you get the drift....
I am easily distracted.....but I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!

Whew, you're fast. Every once in awile I'll have an inspiration where you can throw a card together and its just perfect and it only took maybe 30 minutes or so. But in most cases, if you are making up your own design, it takes considerable time to make a card. Once you make one, then duplicates are a lot faster. Deciding on the paper, embellishments, techniques, stamps, yada, yada, yada, can sometimes takes days. I play with it, change it, ruin it, start over, play some more., ruin it, start over... Its all fun and part of the challenge and I don't rush it.

Default Two hours? Your'e doing good!

It takes me longer than that just to decide what to do, then another two - three hours to get everything together and then another hour at least to make ONE card. It's a darn good thing I don't do this for a living. LOL

You know, if someone who didn't stamp read this thread they'd think we were all nuts. Most recipients have no idea how long the creative process takes. I think card-making is a real labor of love. As I am working, I just consider the minutes/and or hours little prayers going out to those we care about. Handmade cards are the perfect way to let people know they are special and greatly loved.

I totally agree with a lot of the other replies -- I made one card today that took a little over half an hour!! If those are three completely different cards, I think that is amazing!!

SLOW?! You wanna talk slow? I DEFINE slow. I have finished 6 scrapbook pages(12x12) for my niece and she's 8 mths old. I spent an hour and a half the other day stamping a piece of background paper for the next layout. And all it was was a 12x12 orange and white checkerboard. I had to figure out how far appart to stamp the squares. Then I drew a grid in in pencil. Then I stamped. The I had to erase all the lines I had drawn. But I love it. Scrapbooking and cardmaking to me is more about the process than the result. The end product is a nice bonus to a bit of time to escape from your regular life.

I'd call that fast work too. Sometimes I only get one made in an evening.
But it's not a race, and it's better to take time to get it right and end up with something you like and are happy with.
It's one reason I wouldn't like to do them to sell - you'd have to go with simple designs that were easy to produce quickly - and that's not me!

Yeap! do not worry. I was actuallu worried that I was not making many cards at all and was not inspired, till I decided to stop being silly and check out the gallery as usual. It worked I get "delicious" cards done but believe me what have not change is the time I take to make them 2 three hours to make one little delicious card!

No worried chica!

LOL! Sorry, but 3 cards in 2 hours is FAST! Well done.

Cheers,

I just found this thread and I am impressed with 3 cards in 2 hours. As others said, it often takes me a long time to nail down my design - what stamp, what paper, placement of elements. The only time I'm quick is when doing my Christmas cards. I make 40 identical cards each year. I usually spend HOURS coming up with the design and working my prototype. After that part is over, I can crank them out assembly line style.
