I think in part the next day colouring mediums have dried and thus the solour is more even. When we are colouring we are also really close so see every last detail but when the next day we look at it, it look from further away.
I have had the same happen today. I saw a tutorial as to how to watercolour using distress inks, so I tried last night. It was dark, my light was poor and it was new to me. This morning I'm thrilled with the results!
I think we see things once we've walked away from them as others do-we're hypercritical when doing it, but stepping back allows us to literally see the bigger picture. I agree it's a strange phenomenon and shows us that walking away from something that is difficult or not going well, and coming back later can be the most useful tool we could ever own!

This is so true with any of my art work, from coloring, using multi DSP on one card, to many others. I will walk away all at the time and try to get my focus off of it and then come back to it and it looks totally different. So any time I struggle I will walk away and come back to it. It's weird though, isn't it. And usually we are our own worse critic!! KWIM.
Ohh this happens to me all the time - I will make a card, complete it, think it's garbage, leaving it sitting and come back the next morning and think hmmmmm not so bad!!
I think for me I get so focused on the individual parts of the image that I am coloring that I don't look at the whole thing. After walking alway and coming back a little later, it's easier to "see" the whole thing.

I find that sometimes I am working on something that doesn't seem to look right. So I let it lay on my table until the next day. Then I look at it and can usually change the layout or add somthing that makes it look so much better. I guess I wake up with a fresh pair of eyes and see things differently.
When I am finished coloring an image I usually ask DH if it looks alright or not, he is very honest and will tell me if it needs something else or if it is fine the way it is. I am also very critical of my coloring so I ask his opinion because he hasn't just spent an hour or so coloring it so he dosn't see the flaws that I know are there. I use to work in an art gallery and being critical of our coloring is something that most artist suffer from so we are in very good company.
Dang, and here I have always maintained that the craft fairy comes to my house at night, and fixes whatever is wrong with my project. ;) That, and some glitter, will fix just about anything!! JMHO!!
