My DH and I both get ~$150 per month to do whatever we want with and my craft spending comes from there. Anything I sell, side jobs we might pick up or overtime each of us works goes into our own "free spending" accounts. He sees almost every movie that comes out, I buy craft stuff.
One thing I did change: we also have a monthly budget for gifts which covers cards that we send as well as gifts we buy. If I make things to give as gifts it comes out of that budget, not my budget. For Mothers Day I made stationery sets for our moms. The supplies for that come out of the gift budget.
I don't have a budget but I don't spend a lot either. I will be signing up as an SU demo next month and then will have a budget for my SU supplies providing I end up having to meet minimums on my own. Any cricut cartridges I get, I buy on sale or on layaway. I figure I can wait for them.
Who has layaway? Anybody online?? I could really use that too. Thanks!
I'm kinda buying a lot right now because I had nothing but paper and some black ink and a few ancient stamps when I started stamping in January. I spend less than $200 every month and at the beginning it was mostly tools...Cuttlebug, some Nestabilities, Scor-Pal, ribbons, MORE papers. But now that I have my necessities, I can spend away on stamps! Now, I need to spend some money (and time) on organizing all my new stamps! :o

funny. i just placed an order with HMStamps [he carries house mouse, and a few other stampabilities products]. when i submitted my order, there's an option to pay 'monthly' for a $.75 fee -- if i read that right.
I don't have a budget either. I buy what I want. My DH doesn't really care because it doesn't come out of the household money. He plays golf; I stamp - it all works out in the end.
My problem is I do both! I don't have a budget per se. I try to be frugal with my spending, but sometimes I just go crazy and spend spend spend - on both golf and stamping/scrapbooking.
I am amazed by some of your budgets!! I became a SU demo to support my addtiction! So that's where most of my "budget" comes from. But I go by the policy if I need it I'm gett'n it!! My husband is fairly supportive--especially when I remind him of his spending habits!!
Um...So you mean I'm supposed to have a budget? Umm....I just thought I could spend like crazy and hide the credit card bills from DH. Oops! I'm in trouble! LOL!

I want more House Mouse stamps; I want to try Bella stamps; I want all the SU! ink pads; I want all the new In Colors stamp pads and cardstock; I want more Copic markers; I want new furniture for my scrap/stamp room; I want more Nestabilities; I want more Cuttlebug embossing folders; I want the new Tinkerbell, Cars, and Seseme Street Cricut cartridges. I could go on all day.
So what's your budget and how do you spend it? All in one place each month, or spread the love around LOL~ Help!
I have never heard of this word before...could you please elaborate on it's meaning...
I don't have a budget either, although I shop very smart...I never pay more for something than it would sell for on Ebay as far as tools, machines, stamps, etc. If I ever need the money I could sell it and get more than what I paid back.
We are a single-income family with three kids, however I buy and sell a LOT on eBay, and it's considered MY hobby money.... I bought the bigger Cricut off Craigslist and sold my little one for more than I paid during the black friday Mike's sale....so technically it 'looked' like I spent a lot, but that was the month I really didn't go in the hole. Last month I bought a whole lot of used SU & CM products for $200 off of Craigslist and sold it individually on eBay for over $750! $550 goes a long way on scrapping supplies! I do keep track of what I spend, but if it's a deal, I buy...and usually monthly or so, I go through retired stamps I don't use and decide if they are worth keeping for the price they are bringing on eBay.
We actually do the same thing with Campers (RV's). We have been buying and selling (camper flipping) for the past 3 years and now own a very nice Travel Trailer & Truck and have no debt whatsoever.
So...no I don't work for someone, however I use a good portion of my time working for myself to get what I want without ever going into debt.
Ok...I said more than I planned on....but my point is that it's not like we have money we can just blow and now worry about where it goes, but smart shopping and selling can go a long way for stretching an otherwise not-so-great looking budget.

SMART shopping makes so much sense! i think SMART justification is just as important
so, if i bought a scor-pal, that's been on my wish list for ages, only because i really NEED it for the wedding invitations i'm making for my daughter, it's not really a craft expense, right?

Yep!! That's part of your 'helping out with the wedding budget'....not even related to the craft budget at all!!

I could almost hear the laughing (nice, warm, understanding laughter ;) ) when I saw the title to your thread and some of the answers are priceless!!
I've finally tapered off too. It's really hard when you're just starting. I was lucky because it took me awhile to find all the other cool stamp companies.. and now the tools, too.
I'd say my budget should be $50 to $100 a month at the most. I know I've gone over at times recently so I have been selling off some of my less-used stamps to finance my next Papertrey order. Anything else is on hold until the new SU catalog comes out... then I'll have a better idea of where I stand ;)
I'm tapering off, really I am! ROFL!
No budget here, DH would agree with you about a budget though, lol
And about selling cards, I have 2 ladies that are 'regulars' I sell them to them for around 2.50 each. Some more detailed and elaborate ones for more though. The MOST I have ever sold a card for was 7.50. and she offered me more but I couldnt take it, lol! I just sold 50 cards for 187.50, so that averages to about what, 3.25 a card? And they were alot of my old 'just started' cards, lol, so I was tickled to death about that! It tickles me to death that anyone would PAY for them at all! LOL!
I have a budget..but never stay in it....My soldier project takes so much $$$ and I spend a lot for that in postage alone. I also HAVE to HAVE all the new Papertrey papers, ribbons and inks. But then there is SU new stuff too. I do try to be careful it just doesnt work so well. I sell some cards too and this all stays in a seperate account for my craft purchases and to replenish the things I use for my soldier project.
Blessings.
We are on a pretty tight budget, so sometimes I sell older things I'm not using if I don't have the $$ to purchase what I want. I would say on average, it's about $50 - $100/month. I spread it around to severak companies.
I'm pretty practical though. I have a list of wants... but I try to buy from companies that don't retire things every 6+ months so I know there is a chance I can purchase what I want. Make sense?
Good luck...
em
Me too! There's so much out there. Although lately, I have not spent that much, as I am the only one working now (6 mo) of it.
I'm not on a budget right now because DH and I both have really good FT jobs and no kids so we have a lot of disposable income. I spend in the multiple hundreds every month, sometimes going over $500!
BUT, I'll be leaving my job in 3 weeks to be a SAHM to 2 adopted children so I will definitely have to cut down. Don't ask me how!! I think my first step will be keeping a spreadsheet of every single thing I buy. When you see actual numbers, it really makes you stop and think. I'm pretty sure I'm not keeping track right now because I'm in denial! ;)
I don't have a budget and I'm typically not reasonable about it either. I've gotten 8 sets of nesties and 72 copics so far this month. Not to mention stamp sets, etc. I love to shop!
So if I go to dinner with friends it comes from that, my stamping, sewing, random books, all that stuff, comes from that. But it's not a horrid budget. When I got it I did give up manacures right away, didn't seem worth it when it was coming out of my fixed "allowance".
If I sell crap I own like stamps I get that money added to my "allowance" but if i get "paid" for stuff like I got two Hannah Stamps cards published last month so I got $200 for that then I split that half for me, half for the household.
I sell a lot of stuff. I have a thing where I always want new stamps, so I sell a lot of them after just a few months. Whenever I find a new company and REALLY need to buy from them I go see what I can sell until I make enough for the order! haha.
