I seem to have alot of sentiment sets but often don't have one in quite the right size for the front of my cards which I find very frustrating! I do need to get some more Sympathy sentiments as I use the same ones over and over. I would like to get a Pet Sympathy set (if there is such a thing?).
I lack graduation stamps. I can't make myself buy a set specifically for graduation, because I'm always thinking "no one I know is going to graduate anytime soon." But this past year, I made a rather large number of graduation cards! A co-worker asked for FOUR graduation cards and my mom asked for one too!
I also lack religious stamps, like churches. I'm not religious, so have never bought any. But over the years my mom has asked for so many religious cards for her church members, that I've been "forced" to draw many a church.
I don't like printing out sentiments or any card-making related stuff with my printer, because I hate my printer. It will only accept REALLY THIN cardstock like Georgia Pacific or Neenah Linen Ivory - which are the only two cardstock I have right now that can go through the @#$% printer. Then I can only print it in black, unless I want to go through the trouble of scanning the colour of whatever I want it to match, or just wildly guessing what colour I should have the font in. My printer is fine for non-card-making stuff, but when I try to use it for sentiments or digis, I want to destroy it. But I am too cheap to buy a new printer.
Edited to add: Sometimes I want the sentiment to be on the actual cardstock that the rest of the card is made of, but that cardstock is waaaay too thick. I'd be limited to cutting out the sentiment. Or I'd be limited to making the entire card out of Neenah's or Georgia Pacific just so it would match the sentiment. Argh. When I am desperate, I just hand-write the sentiment, trying to mimic the font I want it in. I almost never resort to using my awful, awful printer.

Retirement ... but probably won't need it often so I'll print, handwrite or use "congratulations" instead.
Images and sentiments for kids (birthday and Christmas). Most of the kids to whom I give cards are cousins so I need a variety (also to as accommodate ages and interests) but don't want to spend much. However, I'm getting tired of balloons and cupcakes!
I have never sent Get Well Soon or sympathy cards, so I don't have any of those sentiments. The stamps I always need and never have enough of are missing you stamps. I know that there are only so many ways you can say "I miss you", but my stash is lacking in the Missing You department.
I find sayings for inside cards from websites, old cards, card catalogs, etc. Then I type them in my word processing program on a template for business cards. I buy sheets of business cards from Office Depot & print out a bunch at a time. I keep them in folders & just pick one when I have a card to send. Fast & always different for each card.

I made all of the cards for the Sunshine Club at work so I have a good collection of get well and sympathy.
What I'm lacking, mostly because it doesn't exist, is funny birthday sentiments. My family likes humor! And most birthday sentiments are serious. Ugh. I have a bunch from Hambo and various other companies, but it's never enough.
It's designed to send cards, donations in memory, flowers, gift baskets, etc. during bad times like death, illness, surgery. So instead of everyone in the office feeling the need to send something, the Club takes care of it. Ensures that everyone going through a tough time gets a little "sunshine" from the office.

No blog for me. My gallery chronicles my card-making successes and mishaps.
I'm a sentiment/word stamp junkie so I'm always looking for more. I agree in wondering why more companies don't provide more inside sentiments. I'd rather have a stamp but I use computer generated inside sentiments. I use the 4x6 photo slot on my printer and will print a few extras. The photo slot saves me paper instead of printing a full sheet.
I do need more masculine stamps. We don't have a lot of guys in our family and I've rotating the stamps hoping I don't give them the same ones over and over.
I have a huge stamp collection, but I find it nearly impossible to find nice background stamps that actually fit the background of the card. I don't know why they created all those stamps in such odd shapes- like hotdogs and rolls. Intended to go together but not designed to go together.
For those of you who like sentiments, I'd like to recommend the sets by AmyR. Amy Rysavy is on the design team of MFT, and a few others. She has been making sentiment sets for years, and they are the best. They come on a sheet and have to be cut apart and mounted, but they are so reasonable. No affiliation, just a long time satisfied customer.
Here is a resource for all kinds of quotes for cards and scrapbooks. I use the computer to print the sentiment in font and size I need and then die cut it and layer it. I also cut a word or two using my Silhouette for the front of the card. Again I can size it any size I want! Scrapbooking Quotes & Phrases
Sentiments. I always have a huge issue with what to put in the inside of cards. When I didn't put a poem/saying in a card my mother makes a huge production that the card is lacking.
Here's a resource I couldn't do without, and it's right here in the forum, thoughtfully started by dazzling20....I use it constantly!!

...sure its got a catchy beat, but can you stamp to it?
life is something that happens only when you run out of cardstock
I am definitely in the minority as I like to hand write my sentiments inside the card. I have a notebook of sayings that I flip through when I can't think of something to say on my own (mostly sympathy) or need something funny for any occasion (I am not very clever). I probably have all the stamps I NEED---now WANT?---that's entirely different!

Oh! In the inside of the card I always write everything. If I stamp anything it is usually just "happy birthday". I had been thinking only of sentiments for the outside of the card! For sympathy I can never think of anything to write and must google for examples. :(

Oh, that's awesome! I just downloaded it Not sure if it's just me, but often when I go to write inside a card, my mind just goes blank especially for sad occasions and I am a little scared of saying something that sounds cliched or not quite right. Now I have a fantastic resource at my fingertips - yay
I would agree with sympathy images and sentiments. I have a lot of floral stamps, but most of those seem too "cheerful" in style to be utilized for a sympathy card. I probably need to search the galleries for sympathy cards to see what images folks are using - maybe I'm not thinking outside the box enough.
nanette
Trees are good and I don't think most florals are too happy. Depends On how you colour them. I think mixed florals look most appropriate. I also use birds and ships or landscapes. The latter two especially for guys. If you are religious, you could go with a church or cross.
I particularly would like some good vintage or elegant get well images. I have cutesy but it doesn't suit lots of people. And I second the anniversary sentiments. I have one that says Love, Honor, Cherish which I use but I could use some variety too.
JustRite had a great sentiment set for sympathy. Sorry, I don't know what it was called but it was the old style on their proprietary blocks. I think they may have a new set that's similar though.

PTI has a mini pet sympathy set. They also have one for babies or stillbirth/miscarriage.

This might sound a little crazy, but what I have been doing lately is typing up sentiments I like into a MS Word document (two column text-centered format) .. I select my favorite font, or try them all out, then I print onto cardstock so I don't have to buy all different stamps. Course this will only work if you use a cut-out sentiment. I already have several hundred stamps, but I could still spend a large fortune amassing all the sentiments I think are fun. This is a good alternative.

Oops! Guess I totally misunderstood. I have 8 sympathy greetings of various sizes from a simple "with sympathy" to "sending love and sympathy" to "heartfelt sympathy" to "sharing in your sorrow" that are all from SU. Then I have one by Paper Inspirations that has a large"sympathy" with some encouraging words. This last one is arranged so it can be used separately or together with the "sympathy" horizontal or vertical. I think I am set there. For just a greeting, the kind I need are birthday. I want something fancy, but not too script-like, and all on one line. I have one I love, but like others on this post, I keep using it over and over and would like a change for that particular size/shape. Been thinking about having one made.

Thanks for clarifying - it sounds like a great idea
I had to step back from this one for a minute before I started babbling lol
Nutshell: being Jewish I started making cards in the first place b/c after decades I was sick of the rustic look of commercial Jewish holiday cards...only to find out how few stamps there are! (i know about 800 dreidel, Ruths, zum gali, etc) I miss Outlines terribly b/c they made cool fun images. I make Xmas too and have tons of those ironically!
I am short on Miss you, get well, sympathy (none of which I need specifically "jewish")...I was on adult male images and kids for awhile b/c I am not a fan of the anime big eye look or the no eye look of Magnolia...but those have come out in the last couple years so I am much better off now on those.
Companies with a lot of sentiments..

Sophie-
For churches you could look at Our Daily bread...also on Ebay at Stamps Happen...they often have churches in the image but those stamps need to be either watercolored or blended pens imho. Just be careful of size...some Stamps Happen are really huge.
Flowers on sympathy cards...calla lillies, or flowers in vases images. I like Rebecca's idea of ships/landscapes for masculine sympathy. Another choice might be to do emboss folders in swirls...I see a lot like that in the stores. Embossed, a ribbon and a medium sized square "With sympathy" in dark colors.
Some companies are doing what they call "innie outies" (or the reverse)...so there's something for both the inside and outside of a card. Try looking for that category.
Thanks Wavejumper! I have looked many times at Our Daily Bread for churches, but each time I think "oh, my mom's not going to need any more..." I mean, how many church members can there be, right? Once in a while I'll check out Paper Smooches to see if they have a church, because I really love the Paper Smooches style. I'll look at Stamps Happen too. I know their stamps are huge, I have a couple that I bought from Michaels eons ago.
Sophie-I just checked on ebay...and if you ask for "church rubber stamps" ...128 come up...lot of nice images, diff companies...you might want to take a look.
Or seach on "sentiment rubber stamps" in ebay...tons come up. Or you can ask by specifics.
One word I assume I dont have to say but will...a lot of B&Ms and mfgs are on ebay now so there is a lot of full retail price stuff there...also I just see people go nuts...sellers overpricing currently available stamps (and used!) or buyers who dont bother to check and pay crazy prices.
ie-I just saw a stamp I REALLY want from Coronado Island (but they have a $100 min) show up and got very excited...till the bidding went over 40 dollars for a $12 current stamp! yikes. I have to try and find who sells Coronado. My LSS wont.
I am constantly surfing stamp mfg sites so if I see what people are asking for I'll report back...there is a LOT of kid images out there now-here's some last time I looked:
Clear Stamps by Ectasy
High Hopes
LaLaLand
My Besties
My Paper Moon (Mo Wubba)
Newton's Nook Designs
Paper Pretties
Some Odd Girl
Stampotique Originals
The Paper Nest rubber stamps
Whimsy stamps
There's tons more..I find a fast way to search a particular kind of stamp is to go the gen distributors...search them for it...and see which companies come up and then go look at those companies directly.
Some one was asking for balloon stamps? I just got a ton from Eureka....they have a whole cat just for that. And what they call Balloon Holders-people with their arm up. I expect we have to hand draw the string but even I can manage that. lol.
Wavejumper ... Thank you for the helpful post. I've bookmarked it so I can check every suggestion as time permits. I did go to the Warm Fuzzies page and loved it!

Background stamps that fit size-wise or in terms of being appropriate? Impression Obsession do a fantastic range of backgrounders. I always have at least a couple on my wish-list.
I don't have enough "non-major" holidays such as 4th of July, Halloween, Mother's Day and Father's Day. I also don't have enough funky, funny greetings but I do grab them now when I see them.

I won't second any that have already been mentioned, but I am having a hard time finding sets for getting better after surgery or broken arm or something like that. Get well just doesnt' cut it.
I so hear that about background stamps! What really gets me is when they make a small one with a FRAME. What are they thinking? I can multi stamp but not with a frame! IO cover a card series (6 x 6) is great for fully covering an A2 and if you are willing to cut off a 1/4 inch on one can do an A6 (5.5 x 6.25) too.
Fionna-I need to dig up some info I cant find this minute but what you want is out there-I have seen it. Will get back to you.

That won't even cover a card for me and then if the pattern doesn't repeat I always have to do some sort of border or ribbon that limits what I would like to do.
IMHO a BG stamp should be at least big enough to be a BG for a card that is half a sheet of cardstock (not a quarter), because lets be honest, that is the biggest card most of us can make regularly without getting our engineering hats on.
