I was clearing off my desk hoping to participate in today's CAS challenge when I decided I needed another hook to hang something up. As I am trying to screw it into the underside of my cabinet my elbow bumps my FULL giant mug of HOT TEA! It dumped directly into my {unfortunately} open drawer completely full of SU punches!! Why oh why couldn't it have just gone on my carpet or computer keyboard or anywhere else!?!!
Thank goodness I use a sweetner and not sugar- do you think they'll suffer any bad consequences once they dry out? Why does a little spill turn into a HUGE mess to clean up?!
Oh gosh, I am so sorry that happened. I thought only stuff like that happened to me! I am not sure about the punches. I would make sure they dry out really good. You might want to punch thru some waxed paper after they are dry. I think that is a good lubricant?
Oh ack!!! I think after something like that, I'd have me a good cry for being so clumsy then go run them under hot water and put them outside to dry off quickly before any possible rusting sets in. Good luck with yours!

Panic not, just make sure they are all dryed out and that you use them over the next few days to ensure they don't seize up! I know it's a nightmare but just imagine if it was all over your cardstock:(.....
That's why there is no food or drink that comes inside the doorway of my computer/craft studio. Sticky/greasy fingers and liquid don't go with paper and expensive computer and craft tools.
Personally I feel it's better the punches than your computer.
I am so sorry that happened to you. I do hope that you can salvage all of your punches. I really do think that once they dry out totally they should be fine, but like another poster said, I would use the wax paper a couple of times at least to lubricate them. Are you going to rinse them off first? I don't think that I would leave the tea lying inside them. I think that plain old water would do much better, and yes, do put outside for a good long time so that they are fully dry.
I always use a sports bottle with the re-closable cap, or for coffee I have one of those insulated cups with the little opening on the top that you can close and open. I always open it to take a drink and then close it right away. I am so afraid of spilling anything on my desk, but I get so thirsty that I must have something to drink.
I wish you all the best with your stamps. Please do keep us posted and let us know the outcome. I do feel your pain and anguish. How horrible a thing to happen to someone.
I would love to say "have a happy stamping day", but I really don't know that you can after this fiasco. Smile anyway, it takes away the pain.
Oh, no! Sorry to hear about your big spill and the punches. I am sure the punches will be fine once you rinse them off with a little soap and water and thoroughly dry. This hasn't happened to me - just yet (knock on wood). I always keep my drinks far away from my work surface since I tend to be clumsy. Even if I have to walk all the way to the kitchen counter to take a sip. Good thing the spill didn't land on paper or something you couldn't salvage. Good tip is if you need to keep a drink close you when you are working, is to have a mug with a lid (closed tight *wink). At Archivers, if you were to bring a drink with you, you are required to have some sort of lid on it in case of any spillage.
Good luck with your punches - I am sure they will be in good working order once they dry.
I feel your pain. We had a water leak (from the line to the icemaker) in our kitchen which is directly above my craft room. There was water (filthy water at that) all over my craft room. I lost ALL of my ink pads, All of my SU paper, my punches, my Big Shot, tons of adhesive, my colored pencils, markers, pretty much everything. The only thing that wasn't damaged were my stamps. Luckily they were in a bookcase on the other side of the room. Still, it was over $4000 for my craft supplies alone. Good news, the insurance covers it and I'm going to redesign my craft room to make it more functional. Bad news, I can't stamp at all right now because I have nothing to stamp WITH or stamp ON.
Wow, that is something that I would do for sure!!
If you have trouble with your punches use some WD-40 on them to lubricate them. The only problem with this is it takes a bunch of punches to get it out but it works. I did something to a punch and it got stuck with the paper in it. I let the WD-40 sit in it and it worked like a charm.
Put your punches on paper towel if you use the stuff so you don't get oil residue anywhere.
Good luck!
Thanks ladies! I haven't tried them out yet... been landscaping today, so I was actually able to forget about it for most of the day, until now that is. I'll try them out and see how they work. I didn't rinse them off, just toweled them so hopefully that isn't a mistake. I didn't read all your suggestions until now and they are dry by now so... we'll see. I'll let you know!
I think I would try 'punching' a folded up paper towel to absorb and extra liquid. I would also try to speed up the drying process by using a blow dryer on them. I would be afraid of rust forming if it sat inside the punches too long.
Oh, Kristin! :( I'm so sorry to hear about that... Sounds like something *I* would totally do!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you that they'll be A-OK!!
