I am away from my craft room and trying to remember the name of some pearly stuff I bought several years ago. It came in small tubs. Was a powder. There were lots of different colors to choose from. You had to spray it with hairspray or something to "set" it.
Anyone ever tried stamping with versamark, then the heat and stick powder and then the Pearl Ex?
What's the best way to make this work.
I'm trying to utilize ALL my stuff that is setting around gathering dust.
I haven't tried the Versamark with heat & stick powder but I do put a small amount (just what you scoop out on a craft stick) of the Pearl Ex in a Ranger Mini Mister and fill with water; shake it up and you have a glittered mist to finish off a project.

You don't actually need the heat & stick at all. Just dab your PE directly onto the versamark-stamped image and it'll stay.
One of my favorite, easiest ways to use PE is to use an aqua pen filled with Future Floor Finish to pick up the powder, then color in an image. In one step the image is colored and sealed with a beautiful shimmery color. It's much less messy than mixing sprays.

Actually this way of mixing is easier than a lot of the spray methods I've seen! MUCH less mess! I love those little misters...
I LOVE your avatar, by the way, lol! I always do a doubletake, because it looks exactly like MY first grade picture...almost as if I have a second twin!

This is almost spooky... that the OP would ask and this would be your answer!!
Just two nights ago, as I was wondering how soon I could buy some Glimmer Mist, I was cleaning out a drawer and came across Pearl Ex (is there a story behind this name???) and my Ranger Mini Misters..
So... I did just what you said!! And it was purdy. But ... maybe I just didn't let it dry long enough?? Once dried, if you touch it, will it still come off on your fingers?
Maybe I used too much? This would not surprise me as I pretty much had a shimmery desk after this. And I clogged my mini-mister :( .

I'll have to remember this, Betsy .. .. don't suppose Future Floor Finish comes in small quantities ?!?! LOL!! Sounds really pretty though!
It will still need to be set as in sprayed with a workable fixative if just using with water. Where the mini misters are great for most things, I would not use with PE as the hole is apt to clog. Do you have a larger misting bottle?
Here is some info for you ....
I have many notes for PE if you would like me to send some along. It is a highly UNDERrated source of beauty when making cards!

Just something I pulled up ....
Pearl Ex powders can be mixed into any media and applied to any surface! And the variety of finishes Pearl Ex can produce is nearly endlessfrom metallic sheens to pearlescent shimmers to all manner of faux finishes. It is the best mica powder available for use on polymer clay.
Mix Into:
Oil Paint
Pearl Ex Varnish
Acrylic Paint
Gouache
Varnish
Polymer Clay
Melted wax
Apply to:
Polymer Clay
Glass
Metal
Wood
Paper
Fabric
Almost anything!
It is a safe, non-toxic, inert powdered pigment with a neutral pH. It is extremely colour fast and stable it will not tarnish or fade and is therefore ideal for archival applications.
Duo colours - these powders are different colours on different polymer clay backgrounds - the first colour shows on light clay and the 2nd colour on dark clay.
Interference colours - look white before application but give a strong effect on dark polymer clay ranging to pastel on white clay.
Pearl white on white polymer clay makes wonderful pearls. The same colour on black clay gives a beautiful bright silver.

Go to Mike's or ACM and pick up some Gum Arabic in the art supply section, usually by the watercolors. Add a little of this stuff to your shimmer spray and it will make the PE stick. No color or odor to it either. Sometimes they have the powdered Gum Arabic right by the Pearl Ex, too.

I would be interested in the Pearl-Ex notes as well. I have quite a few little jars of it in the back of a drawer - was just thinking about them the other day. I would love to put them to good use now with the holidays approaching. TIA
"Pearl Ex" does need a 'binder', such as alcohol, mixed in with water to 'hold it'. Added security comes from hair spray misting or a fixative art spray. (Yep ... I've got 12 bitty tubs of this stuff and 1 huge one.)
There's another product, by 'Ranger' called 'Perfect Pearls'. It mixes alone with water in a mister to provide a shimmery mist that does not require additional binding agents. It also provides shimmery goodness to Versamark, etc. ;)
njelsmum and Lisa....I couldn't see how to attach in a PM....I have tried to attach a couple of interesting files for you to look at here. I do also have a little booklet if you would like to look at that too...I have scanned it in the computer...but I will need to have you PM your email addy ....a few too many pages to put in here like this.
Cheers,
Michelle
And welcome to the very pretty world of Pearl EX!!!!!!!
Oh and sorry to be so late in getting this info to you...I have been racing around like a chook with its head cut off designing and organising a new kitchen and quite forgot!

Since originally posting - I hadn't had time to get down to stamping or playing. So I had JUST thought ... "I am going to go stamp, now what was it we were talking about with Pearl Ex ..." Decided to check my email and there was your post!!! YEAH --

Thank you so much for this information. Some time back I had mixed some of the PE with water and of course it came off and I was contemplating throwing it out, but after reading your post I remembered that I have a bottle of Gum Arabic...................it worked!!!! Thanks again!!!
