Default What is paper clay?

I was watching HGTV this morning and a lady used paper clay. Is it the same as polymer clay? (I tried to see if I could find what she was making in HGTV but I couldn't.)

It is along the same line as polymer clay but it does not have to be heated to set...you let it air dry...the texture is not quite as smooth as the polymer clay...I have pressed it out, stamped images into it, then painted it...pretty easy to work with...you can find it near the polymer clay at Michael's...it has been a while since I used it but it was in a black package with maybe red lettering.

You use paper clay just like polymer clay, but it air dries; you don't have to bake it. You are more limited in coloring options, though, since you don't want to use any wet media to color with. It looks like porcelain if you use chalks to color and then a glossy spray sealer. You can use a microwave to speed drying if you are like me, somewhat challenged in the patience department.

I *love* that stuff. I used to make all kinds of pins and such with it. I actually felt "comfortable" working with it; I have always been very intimidated by the polymer clays for some odd reason . . .

I saw paper clay in an article in Creating Keepsakes, last year sometime, and had to have some. You can mix it with acrylic paint, and that gives you more colors. I love it! I love stamping on it. You can also bake it per manufactures instructions if you want. It's a different texture than polymer clay, too. I've seen it at Hobby Lobby and Michaels in my area, but I really had to look for it.
