The quilling paper I've used is very thin, more like text-weight paper than cardstock. You need to roll the paper very tightly for some of the shapes, and thick paper just wouldn't give you the delicate look you're after. (For one of my sample boards, we rolled a 3" x 1/8" strip of quilling paper into a tight circle barely 1/8" in diameter!) I don't try to cut quilling paper myself, even though I have almost every paper cutter I've ever heard of; the pre-cut strips are cheap to buy, perfectly even, and very easy to use. (Here in NW Arkansas, I've seen them at Hobby Lobby, a local scrapbooking store, an art supply store, and online.)

Thank you - I have a really fun idea, but wasn't sure if I should try cutting them that small -- I just bought some very inexpensive, so I am off to have fun!
