I pulled out my Fresh Fig pad (the old classic style) last week and it had weird bumps on it - like the ink was drying out in random spots even though it was still juicy. This is not the first pad from that year to do that, Berry Burst did the same with in a year. Stampin Up replaced the Berry Burst with one of the new style pads and it seems to be okay. I know that my demo guy had the same issues with his Berry Burst and had lent me his Fresh Fig (appears his might be starting to have the same issue).
I haven't reached out to SU yet, but am planning on doing so. I just wanted to see if anyone else had had this experience.
I haven’t had that issue with mine, but it certainly sounds like the mold issue some of the colors get. Make sure you clean the stamps you used with that ink pad. Though I haven’t heard this officially, It seems to make sense that you could transfer it from one ink pad to another. (Of course, it could be that I’m just skittish about this kind of stuff now... lol)
It happens sometimes with some of the reds. F. fig isn’t a red but may have some of the same components in it. I would request a replacement from the company or ask your demo to request it for you.
I had little bubbles on a couple ink pads that I hadn't used in a while. (Did not look like mold). I smoothed out the ink with the back of a plastic spoon. The ink resettled in and all is good. Maybe that is worth a try. HTH

Tried rubbing it, it is actually hard and feels sort of like corn meal. If is stamp with it I get speckles.
But that is good information to have going forward.
I had the hard bumps form on my Real Red ink pad but it was about 15 years old when it happened and I used it for awhile and then replaced it. On the foam pads, I bought one from our LSS that had the bumps when I opened it up. I took it into the store and the owner said it was mold and replaced it. The bumps didn't look like mold but she assured me they were.
I've had that happen to a few of my old ink pads, and I'm pretty sure they weren't Stampin' Up. I'm also pretty sure it wasn't mold. There were hard little bits of what appeared to be dried-up ink. I threw them away because they were old anyway. That really shouldn't happen to new ink pads, and if it is a common occurrence with SU, then they really should do something about that.
This has happened with several of my pads, not just reds--Early Espresso, Basic Gray, etc. As a separate issue, I do not care for SU's new style pads. They are hard to open, hard to close, I've broken fingernails trying. Combining the two issues, I have decided not to buy ink pads from SU. I buy the little uninked spots and ink refills and make my own pads, both for the new In Colors and to replace my moldy pads as the problem rears its ugly head.

I have had that issue with the old fresh fig and berry burst. I did not realize they would replace them. It did not look like mold, but more disintegration of parts of the pad leading to an irregular surface that crumbled. Unless that is what the mold does? I shall have to give SU a call. Thank you!
