I have a friend whose sister is getting married in April. they would like to make their invitations, however, they need them to be simple yet "elegant". they would like to incorporate butterflies and the color purple. anyone have any fabulous ideas??
I don't have any specific ideas off the top of my head, but I do think the butterflies in the Wonderful Wings set are elegant looking (especially when combined with the French Script background). There are hundreds of samples for that set in the gallery. Maybe try looking there to see if anything catches your eye. Hope that helps a little!
If you don't have the French Script, You could use the technique challenge background method that was shown this week. I used it for my brother-in-law's b-day card. You could do pages of purple script and then cut them to size. That's Monday's challenge.
What I would do for something simple and elegant is this:
Stamp your butterflies in purple on white cardstock
Print the invitation information on ink jet vellum
Punch two holes (1/8") in the top of both and tie a purple ribbon to the top.
I've done many like that and they are 'simple but elegant'.
I spent most of my free time in February & early March making my son & daughter-in-law's wedding invitations. I used Swirl Frame fun (the frame) embossed in gold, with a beautiful stamp I found at Beverly's that said, "To Love And To Cherish" in this great swirly writing. I added organdy ribbon. I think the frame (it is retiring at the end of this month) is great for invitations, and you can put anything inside. (Sorry, I've never posted anything here but hope to one day.) There are many swirly butterflies (SU & other brands - Denami, Hero Arts) that would work well in an invitation. I think it would be beautiful in white with a purple butterfly. (You can look through eBay for a butterfly stamp.)
I used a wedding font and printed on velum for the words, and then used spray adhesive to adhere inside the invitation. It was so much work!!! But now my other boys want me to do the same thing, and I do feel it was really worth it. I love hand-made so much better. I think my supplies cost me $70, but I made 170 invitations and had a whole lot of supplies left over.
Also, someone posted the most beautiful candle in "Anything but a Card" or whatever that section is - it's a white candle, with crimped velum around it and a glittery white butterfly. I think it would be so incredible for the tables at a reception. Okay, there's my 2 cents (just for ideas).
The June issue of Papercrafts magazine has some wonderful wedding invite ideas in it. Between that and the gallery here those are the best ideas I can think of.
I made my SIL's invitations, I had her go thru a million websites to see what her style was, what she liked, what she couldn't stand, colors etc..
Here are some of the sites I sent her to, I hope that helps

Thank you everyone for the great ideas. I am new here and so appreciate all of the responses!! I went and looked at the gallery and a TON of great ideas from there. :-) seems like the vellum is the most "elegant" way to go these days. :-)

Mine were like this. My colors were navy, silver & white so we did the daisy set in blues on white (around the edges) & then that was layered on night of navy. The vellum with the wording went on the top with silver ribbon.
