oooh I just made on today from Score-pal...the one page bags. I used the top note die for the top, crop-a-diled the holes and ran a knotted ribbon thru to close...I will keep checking to see if you want to go to that much trouble...
Melissa, I took the liberty of starting a new thread so everyone in General Stamping would have a chance to share their favorite bag instructions with you.
I have to say, I typically use mini lunch sacks bought in bulk from Sams--sorry I don't have anything for making your own bag from scratch.
They go together quickly, if you leave them more plain, or you can take extra time to make them more elaborate. I hope your project will become a very memorable one for you!
I don't have any ideas for you. I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you. My cousin, and best friend, is battling metastatic breast cancer right now. We have always faced it with an odd sense of humor. Sounds like your family is similar to mine. I hope these final days with your mom are full of wonderful memories!!!!
Another way to do a quick bag with just paper and ribbon (ribbon for the handles) is to do a modified version of the 2-4-6-8 box. I did a series of these as breast cancer survival kits a few weeks ago and they worked well. It does take a bit of thinking to think out the scores for the first one, but then it's all just repeating what you did before.
Although, the Bagalope is probably easier and faster. You could even modify that by just using a small white bag that you either stamped on one side or attached patterned paper.
As for the book, I bought that one for my niece and nephew a few years back. There's a whole series!

my Grandma's favorite saying was "Oh Bubbles" so my Aunt gave us handmade bubble wands one Christmas made from a long glass bead and wire. Does your Mom have any such phrase she's known for? Or something she collects (my Aunt collects Owls)that you might include as a little momento?
Your Mom has to be one kick butt lady!
How about buying the little bubbles (wedding bubbles are the only ones I know of). Decorate them with a scrap of Halloween paper, and have people bring them to the funeral to blow bubbles to heaven.
On a more serious note: you could print and laminate instructions for a self breast exam. Whatever day her birthday is; say the 12th, ask people to do their exam on the 12th of each month in her memory.
I am so sorry. I hope she can have fun until the end. It's the only way to go. Today we had a good day with family and a friend. Tomorrow we're doing it all over again and Saturday is Thanksgiving, just a wee bit early.

Genie bag it is. My mom has a Michaels close by so I swung by and bought some black bags and $60 worth of other stuff and all without a single coupon! I let myself slide this time under the circumstances. Even my mom was shocked that I was couponless.

Thanks for the chuckle, Melissa. I have a hard time going without a coupon too. LOL. If you will be able to take a pic of the bag and goodies when you're done, we'd love to see them!
I love your family's wonderful attitude. You will create wonderful memories that will last. I did a craft show with some of those pumpkins made from that candy corn type candy. They are bright orange with the green stems. I packaged them up and called them "witches tits" People really loved them.
I don't have any ideas for you, just wanted to say how much I admire your attitude (and your family's). Your mom is an inspiration to us all. Sending hugs and prayers your way.
I contacted a woman who teaches all kinds of baking classes locally. She was just on TLC's Ultimate Cake Off a few weeks ago. She is going to make the cookies for me tonight for free. She just lost a friend to cancer THIS MORNING and said she feels like she needs to do something, but she didn't know what. I can't wait to see what they look like. If I remember, I will take pictures and post them.
I want to thank you all so very much for all of your ideas and kind words. They mean a lot to me and I am very serious about that. I know that they will be even more meaningful once she is gone. This has been and will be a crazy time for me and I need all the help and support I can get from near and far, family and stranger.
Please hug your kids, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc, tight tonight and remember that nothing in life matters but who you love and who loves you. Because in the end, 'things' don't matter- the love, experiences, and memories do.
Here's my family's version, though we call them What-A-Clocks. The recipes are pretty darn close. I used to beg cookies off of the neighbors across the street. Apparently one day, when I was about four, I went across the street and asked if she was baking cookies. She said she wasn't but would be that afternoon. I came back that afternoon and asked if the cookies were ready. She said no, they were baking. I asked, "What-a-clock will be they done?" Hence the name. Here's the recipe -
What-A-Clock
1 c. flour
1 t. soda
 t. salt
sift together
 c. Crisco
 c. peanut butter
 c. white sugar
 c. firmly packed brown sugar
Cream together
Add:
1 unbeaten egg
1 t. vanilla
Beat well
Blend in dry ingredients
Bake balls at 365 for 10 minutes. Remove and top with Hersheys Kiss. Put back into oven for about 3-5 minutes.
That is too funny! I have a chicken casserole recipe that my kids call "Hide and Watch" because when I was making it for supper one time, my daughter said "What's for supper, Mom?" and I said "hide and watch!" (it was one of my Dad's standard responses to similar questions when we were little!)
Thanks for the ideas. I am at my mom's right now. I brought all of my supplies and she is excited that we are doing all of this, or at least she seems to be. The OxyContin and other pain meds are making her really loopy at times. Not to be selfish, but if you can all send out some positive thoughts to keep her here for at least another week or two, we'd appreciate it. We're just not quite ready to send her back to the earth, or swimming with the fishes, which is what she wants.
Melissa, remind us again if you've already mentioned... what's your Mom's first name?
Just got a new Oriental Trading Company catalog, and they have a ton of Breast Cancer items in there. And, as usual, the stuff is cheap. There might be items you could include (and they ship fast!)
another slightly weird idea- buy the large gumdrops, dip them in pink melted candy coating (the Wilton Melts?), and pipe a darker pink "nipple" on top. Boob candy!
Melissa:
I agree with Tammy that your comment "nothing matters but who you love and who loves you" needs to be made into a stamp. I think they'd sell out! Any companies listening?
You, your mom and your family are on my heart and in my prayers. I hate what you all are dealing with. Been there, done that, but it stinks!
You know something good comes out of everything and your initial request for ideas has pulled together alot of good women who are sending you thoughts, prayers, ideas, etc. This has been so inspirational for me. In society today, it seems like there is so much negative talk, news, etc.; but here on SCS are some pretty phenomenal women who have reached back when you reached out!
Thanks to you and your Mom - maybe you could share that thought with your Mom is you deem it appropriate.
Hang in and hang on! You're on the hearts of many.

You...and your mom sound like awesome people. Also sounds like she raised a loving, thoughtful, caring and funny daughter. What an incredible accomplishment. Love and prayers to your family.

LOL. I may have to use that sometime...

I am so sorry to hear about your mom and know that you are in my thoughts. I lost my Step-mom a few years ago to cancer and one thing we repeatedly said was 'Cancer Sucks!' A while back I made a project and altered suckers with the scallop punch with a little sentiment on them stating exactly that.
I truly hope this doesn't offend anyone, but humor helped us through a lot of the pain and I certainly wish for this to be true for you and your family as well, Melissa!
Thanksgiving yesterday was really nice. In fact, it was better than most years and we had a good time.
The goodie bags went over well. Everyone loved the lollipops. The 'cancer sucks' tag around the stick was a big hit. I think I might go into a non profit business and make them for people in need.
My mom is hanging in there today. She's still trying to help do laundry and clean the house because she said she is bored. She is starting to say things that don't make sense or are just wacky, but she realizes it. I don't know how many days left we have, but I have never enjoyed doing laundry with my mom so much in my life.

{{Melissa}} I am so hugging you. Treasure this time with your mom. I will be thinking of you and your family and praying for you all.
Prayers heading your way Melissa, I'm glad you are getting time to enjoy your mother and all the goodies you put together for her friends was really nice.
I'm just checking in on ya Melissa! You and your mom have been in my thoughts.
then a friend asked me to make a breast cancer goodie basket and my infamous naughty cards... so the ideas on this thread really came in handy!
The only thing I can't find is one of those Hostess snowballs - they are usually pink - and I made a tag to put on it that said 'who needs balls when you saved these boobs!"
her motherinlaw has breast cancer and apparently a naughty sense of humor (my kind of woman!).
