Default Versa mark ink & tinted ink

I am new to rubber stamping. I just purchased a Versa ink pad after doing a make & take at a local Scrapbook store. When I got home I found I had a tinted ink stamp pad. Are they basically the same ? What I used the versa ink pad for was making a stamped back ground shinny with the addition of clear embossing powder. I have had the tinted ink pad a long time and I don't remember how I used it.

A Versamark pad will leave an image that looks like a watermark on the paper, even after it's dried. A tinted embossing pad will not leave an image that stays, although on some papers it may not competely disappear. It won't be as obvious as the Versamark, though. Either one will work to use embossing powder with though, as they both stay wet awhie.

Welcome to rubber stamping! It's such a fun hobby, one that will keep you enthralled for years to come!

Versamark is good stuff. I think it has glycerin in it, which makes a stable sticky image. So it holds embossing powder in place, so it doesn't blow away before it melts, it holds chalk and pearl-ex in place (until you can hold it down with some other fixative). It acts as a resist - so wherever the Versamark is, ink will not be absorbed and stain the paper.

There are long long threads in this forum dedicated to the zillion uses of Versamark and it's greater glories.

It's certainly one of the stamping staple items. Unless you are a fan of the Ranger Perfect Medium product, which is similar, but seems to dry faster.

Thank you. I'm glad I bought it. I will see if I can find the other threads on the uses of versa mark.

Check the label of your ink pad- Does it say VersaMagic or VersaMark? VersaMagic are chalk inks that you would use to stamp your images. VersaMark are the watermark images that you can emboss with and is shiny. If yours is tinted, you may have a versamagic chalk pad.
