Default Unmounting tricky stamps!

I have a set that I am trying to unmount that is proving to be most challenging. The foam backing seems to want to stay on the rubber image permanently!

I have tried putting them in the microwave but all that did was loosen up the sticky on the foam. It came off the block easily, but I still can't separate the foam from the rubber.

I know I am being picky, but if I leave the foam on and then mount on my easy cling, the stamps won't fit in my CD storage case.

Any tricks out there that you want to share?

Try freezing it instead. Pop the whole thing into the freezer for about 30 minutes. I have unmounted all my stamps this way and have found that 99% of the time, the rubber just pops right off the foam. With some stamps it leaves a very thin layer of glue/foam on the rubber, but that rolls right off using your thumb.

I use EZMount and CD cases for all my storage too, so I know that you're not being picky - you're making it work!

Hope it helps...

DK5 spray works like a charm. I get it at Long Creek Mills:

I use goo gone to get the remnants of foam and glue off my stamps. I let is sit for a few minutes and it peels right off. I wash my stamps after I use goo gone on them to get rid of the residue.

But Goo Gone says on the bottle not to use it on rubber. That didn't keep me from using it once or twice, but it is a bear to get it all off the rubber. I don't think I'll do it again. I knew that WD40 makes rubber brittle eventually and I think Goo Gone does the same.

I have found that if I can just get a small amount of that foam down to closer to the rubber, one of those adhesive remover squares gets a good start and my thumb works really hard to kind of rob/roll the rest off. Yes, it is a lot of work. Yes, occasionally I have a small blister on my thumb when I get done. But those really stubborn ones don't respond to any solvent anyway, so this is really your only option. My stubborn stamps are usually worth the extra effort anyway.

Here's that adhesive square thingy:

I have also gotten them at Hobby Lobby, etc.

Goo Gone caused a set of TAC rubber stamps to crack on me within a few months of using it on them. Also had a stamp from IO that curled up when I put Goo Gone on the back of it to get the adhesive off. Now it won't flatten. I only left it on for 30 minutes and cleaned it off with soap and water after I was done, but that didn't stop it from ruining the stamps.

I guess I've been lucky with goo gone cause it hasn't had any affect on the stamps I used it on. Another trick you might want to try, is using olive oil or peanut butter on it. I use to do this to remove chewing gum stuck on the bottom of my shoes.
