Thought about making some lotion to give as gifts...
using Denise's Lotion recipe. What kind of jars have you used to put this in? I'm limited in choice since I have NO craft store whatsoever around. I saw some had used baby food jars. Any other ideas?
It came out fine for me. I haven't had any problems. It's not any thicker than regular lotion - not when I've made it, anyway.
Shipping depends on your quantitiy and location. If you add how many you want to the cart, I think there is a total on the right side of the page that shows your shipping.
I used 4 oz Ball preserving jars and I got some fancier Ball jars at Target - I also picked up some of the small travel plastic jars and lotion bottles, so they could be put in your purse............
This sounds like something I've been looking for---homemade and fairly inexpensive. I like to give homemade goodies. This would be great for other occasions too. My request is can someone share the recipe for the lotion PLEASE. Thanks in advance.
Denise's Lotion Recipe
15 ounce Vaseline ( generic brands are fine also)
16 ounce vitamin e cream
"2" 16 ounce baby lotion *(or any other scented lotion)
Mix all this together with hand mixer in METAL bowl.(it will look like thick cake frosting)
Then spoon into jars with a METAL spoon
(note: don't use anything plastic or your stuff may taste like lotion)
My mom has some jam jars so I'll try those. I may pick up some of the travel plastic bottles. How many of the jam jars will this batch fill?
We've really cut back on Christmas this year so I've been making some gifts and so has hubby. He loves to do wood working. Can't wait to try this lotion!

I buy the vitamin e cream at Wal-mart and it comes in a 2 pack of 4 oz containers. I've used the four of those and decorated them as gifts. I also save pump hand soap containers and use them. It comes out fine out of the pumps.
I made Denise's Lotion last night here is a pic... i dont like the smell very much,i thought about adding lavender oil what do you all think would this work? xx jo xx

I don't care much for the baby lotion smell either - but I found an almond cocoa butter lotion that smells wonderful....... have also have used Lavender nighttime baby lotion - and that smelled ok also........I think as long as it is not an overwhelming smell to the lotion alone - it will work
Location: not too far from the big mountain in n.h.

Thanks for all this info everybody! I'm going to have to try this. I have some little jars from chopped pimentos that I think would work great.
I have a question about the lids....Do you paint them before adding to them or do you just glue on decorations? And what adhesive do you use to adhere stuff to the metal cap? What a great gift idea!

I don't think I'd use Lavender Essential oil, as that can actually be a little drying. You could use any skin safe fragrance oil, as they are cheaper than Essential oil.
I just made this for my first time and I love how it moisturizes! My skin is very dry. Although I do not care for the baby lotion smell. I am going to try the scent craftymomto2 posted. I just made a very small batch because I didn't know if I would like it. If I can find a milder scent and some cute little jars I am going to be making a lot of these for Christmas!
Thanks for sharing such a great recipe!
For myself, I just recycle the Vitamin E and vaseline jar to put the lotion in. Of course, you will need more than two, I also scout out garage sales in the spring/summer for jars (I used a Clinque jar today). You could check the Dollar store, Goodwill, thrift shops, etc. for jars too.
I must be a little dense on homemade lotion - if you are using baby lotion then isn't it already "lotion"? Or is this enhanced lotion really great and so it's really worth remaking the lotion? It sounds like a cool gift but I need to understand before I make some batches.

I too was a bit Sceptical so I only made a small batch and I have to say its lovely and creamy and really softens your skin in my opinion far better than just using one of the 3 ingreients.Give it a try what have you got to lose just a few pounds/dollars xx jo xx

I am telling you--Denise's lotion is a concoction that is simply the best. Baby lotion comes in other scents and unscented--find what works best for you. Buy the top dollar stuff or the Walmart brand--I have tried them all. However, the Dollar Store stuff will not be as good and goes rancid very quickly--it turns runny.
One batch of Denise's will last at least a year. But, if you give it as gifts, you will have to make it 2 x a year...people ask when you are making it again. I got carded today buying wine at Target--and I am 55. Could have been a joke but that felt great! I used the stuff everywhere--neck, arms and face.
This stuff is GREAT!! I made some because my skin on my legs was getting so dry that all I wanted to do was itch it and once you start you can't stop. I put some on my legs last night before bed and today my legs have not itched at all and they are nice and smooth now!! I put it on all over too it is SO GOOD! Take the plunge, you will not be sorry you did!
For those of you who used your stand mixer to mix up the lotion - which attachment did you use? The paddle or the whisk? I'm leaning towards the whisk because it's metal - my paddle attachment has a plastic coating and I'm afraid it will pick up a lotion taste.
I made this last night and it worked out great. I couldn't find the vitamin e cream so I used coco butter cream and I had some vitamin e caps so I cut those open and squeezed the oil into the lotion - and its wonderful. I find it a bit greasy when it first goes on, but once its absorbed your skin is so smooth (and I have really dry skin in the winter). I bought little squeeze bottles from the dollar store and filled 8 of those, plus the 2 empty bottles from the baby oil and half the container of the coco butter with the finished lotion. I'm giving the filled dollar store bottles as gifts in a kit I'll make. I'll make some nice labels for them. It was fairly inexpensive to make and yielded so much lotion. Its amazing.

Would love to see pis of your bottles once you have decorated them xx jo xx
Has any pregnant mommies tried this on there bellies yet? I'm going to be a great auntie in July (I CAN'T WAIT WOOHOO) and my nephews girl friend has dry skin and I know when baby starts growing her tummy will be itching, I know mine did with my pregnancy and I never did find anything to help :(

I don't think you are dense at all. I think it's a question a lot of people probably have. I tried some of this last year for my feet. Oh, my gosh. I was in heaven. The mix of vaseline and lotion is just perfect for my dry cracked feet. I rub this stuff on them and feel human again. My husband even loves it on his feet now. I know some others answered your question, but I wanted to throw my opinion out there, too! I don't think you'll regret it if you try it!

Just wondering...
Bumping because I'm wondering, too. I don't know what the coating on my paddle attachment is and I don't want to risk having lotion flavored cookies. ;)

Did you use baby lotion? Am just wondering if the scents "clashed" ...I mean how did it smell after mixing the cocoa butter with the baby lotion....I can't find Vitamin E cream here but did find cocoa butter....
The best Vit E is at Walmart on the bottom shelf of the lotions and the jars can be used for the lotion.
I use the batter blade on my KitchenAid for mixing the stuff--the open kinda' shield shaped attachment.
The 'baby' scent disappears very quickly and never clashes on me--and I have real issues with most things turning to bug spray scent on me! I have only 2 perfumes that I can wear and hardly any lotions--except Denise's.
