Default hot glue from a glue gun & Scrapbooking

Does anyone know if it is safe to use hot glue from a glue gun on a scrapbook page. Any help anyone can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Becky

I'm guessing that you're trying to attach embellishments to your page. I didn't think hot glue was meant for use with paper.

Actually, I cased someone else's (don't remember who, Sorry) idea of making embellishments from Hot Glue by pressing a stamp into the hot glue waiting til it cools, removing the stamp and coloring. I can use these embellishments on cards but would like to use them on my scrapbook pages also if they are safe.

Thanks

Becky

Unless the hot glue says it's af/lf (which mine does not), I wouldn't trust it near my pics. But perhaps you could use it on another part of the page - just make sure it's not touching photo's on that page or on the facing pages.

I did a check on this web site:
http://www.scrapbookpreservationsociety.com/
which has lots of info about photo safety. I didn't find anything specifically about hot glue so I email them. If I get a reply, I'll post it!

Yikes, I've used hot glue in my scrapbooks, and never even considered whether it was "safe" to do so. I can't tell you whether it will damage the photos down the road or not. I hope not!

Creating Keepsakes Magazine says it's safe and gives directions for making the faux wax seals:

US National Archives and Records says it's not safe to use hot glue. The link to the section is too huge to paste here so go to this site and on the pull-down menu at the top right hand corner select 'Preservation'. On the next page under 'Sections' click on 'Caring for Your Family Archives' then check out the question on mounting.

Personally, I'd use the faux wax seals (they're so cool!) but make sure they weren't actually touching any photos. The pictures in my scrapbooks are also stored on CDs so I can always redo one should something go horribly wrong down the road. HTH

Thanks for the US Archives site...great info there.

My email to the Preservation Society was returned undeliverable. They must no longer be using that address.
