I am brand new to stamping and SU. The talent I see in the gallery just blows me away. Just so inspiring!
I was wondering, if you only had one option to color your images: SU Markers, SU Watercolor Crayons, or SU Watercolor Pencils; what would you choose and why? I know a lot of people love Copics and Gamilsol but I just want to stick to SU products right now.
Well, they all give a different look. But I find the markers are more versatile. You can not only color the images, you can color right on the stamps, plus use them for color-coordinated journaling.
I agree- as an overall great product that is so super versatile you can't beat the full set of markers! You're guaranteed to have every SU color if you own the full set, you can fix stamping mistakes, color, journal, use the color spritzer, even address your envelopes and sign your cards in coordinating colors!! You can also use them to watercolor with an aquapainter- in a pinch at a workshop once where I forgot my inkpad I just asked the hostess for some wax paper then scribbled with the marker on a piece for each guest which they used to watercolor with the aquapainter. A big investment, but SO worth it! Hope that helps!
With the crayons, you can color the stamp, spritz it and stamp...or spritz the paper then stamp...acheiving a cool watercolor look. Or you can use the crayons with the aquapainter to watercolor. I also watercolor paint (the original painting kind, with tube watercolors and brushes and all that) so I like the "watercolor look".
I Agree with GreenDragonLady the markers are what I use the most and are more versatile. I know it won't help but I have started using my crayons more and really like them too!!!

Good luck with your decision.
I love hearing this phrase!
The watercolor crayons are definitely good too. BTW...I have all three!
I have the SU Markers, SU water crayons and the SU pencils. I like all of the SU coloring products, but I think that the markers are the most versatile of the three, you can use them for everything. I would suggest that you go with the markers first, they are expensive to get the full set at once but it is worth the expense, you can always add the rest later as you can afford it.
I like the SU markers because you can color the image with them or color on the stamp itself. I couldn't afford to buy the whole set at once all but tried to buy a few at a time until I got them all. So glad I did !
Check with your demo. Some demos have marker clubs, where you pay a set amount for 4 months, and usually get one color family of markers and the same family of cardstock, and at the end you have the full set, the case, plus all families of cardstock. You also get hostess benefits for one of the months!

Took the words right out of my mouth. Although I love my SU! Watercolor Crayons and pencils, it is the markers I reach for the most. Love coloring right on a stamp especially on flowers with stems.

I started out with the crayons ( I love them and still prefer them for a nice watercolored look). I bought the markers-one set at a time and really like them as well. They are "brighter" than the crayons and you can use them for more things, including just plain old coloring.
If I were to do it all again, I would start off with the markers because as others have said they are more versatile. Even though I love my crayons, I still needed the markers, too.
I would get the markers, and get an aquapainter, you can use the aquapainter to watercolor by squeezing the lids of your SU ink pads and using the ink that gets on the inside lid...so fun.

I would choose the SU! markers!
I use them mine all the time.

I don't know if she has ink pads, but I've colored marker in on a piece of acetate and used my aqua painter to pick up color that way too-great suggestion!
If you're trying to keep costs down, a paint brush works well too.
For cardmaking I would recommend the SU marker if I could only pick one. For scrapbooking I would pick the watercolor crayons since they are scrapbook safe whereas the markers are dye ink so they will fade faster. I don't own the SU watercolor pencils, but they are also scrapbook safe.

I like the crayons. I've gotten just a few markers of the colors I use most -- especially greens (celery, moss, and olive) so I can ink up the flower image with an ink pad and then do the stem with a marker.
Gee, I see to always been in the minority, but I don't care for the crayons. I'd go with the markers because of the vesatility of being able to color on stamps, watercolor, or just color in images.
I also don't care for aquapainters as they are harder to control the flow of water than a nice paintbrush which is considerably less cost.
I also suggest that you may not want to buy an entire set of markers. There may be many colors that you will never use and the savings isn't that huge versus having markers you don't use but you do get the great case which is hard to find.
I, too would say the markers give you the most options but they are also the most expensive. The advantage to the WWC is the initial expense is quite a bit less than than that of a full set of markers and you also get all 48 of the SU colors. The pencils are the least expensive and IMHO the least of everything. The colors don't match and I am not exactly sure why they are in the catalog.
I guess it would boil down for me what my budget allowed at the time, and what I wanted to use them for. If you want to do a lot of watercoloring, then go with the WWC. If you want to use them in the place of ink pads to ink stamps then markers are the way to go.
Just my 2 cents. And like others above, I do have both.

I love pencils! But, the versatility of markers is a big plus. A blender pen may allow you to put off the purchase of markers for awhile. Much cheaper and it is sort of like having a marker in every color. Hard decision - good luck!
Start with the markers!!! As the Gals have said - more expensive, but most versatile.
Then the crayons.....love both for different reasons and uses. Also, depending on my mood and stamp I'll use both.

That is exaxtly what I would say. You can also color line art with them, or use them for watercolor if you first color on a pallete and pick up the color with the aqua painter. You'll also be able to buy more of the colors you like since they are about 1/2 the price of the pads. I would probably buy one pad or versa mark pad for any rollers you may have though.
