I guess I'm not smarter than your average SU inkpad! :oP I recently got my first SU inkpad, the kind that slides and flips around. The first time I used it, I pinched my finger, which kinda ticked me off. Then today, determined to use the thing and conquer the pad, I flipped it around a little roughly because it kind of sticks in one place and the whole darn thing came apart! *Oh, crap* It honestly took me nearly 20 minutes to get that stupid thing back together. It was like one of those intelligence puzzles which I apparently suck at. LOL! Now I'm wondering, do I really want to invest in a whole color set of these?? I really like the craft pads and am tired of my dinky little spots, especially for inking up backgrounds and wheels. I *will* conquer the pad!
I have done it too! But it is just one of my pads that is a little stiff, it is my chocolate chip pad I think. They do get better as you use them and it definitely doesn't happen with all of them.
You're not a moron! THey are kinda hard until you get the hang of it. And I STILL (after using them for 3 years) have to get out another pad to compare it to when I've popped it apart into two pieces. Believe me though, they are so much better than the old style because of the bigger, raised surface area. You'll get used to it!
LOL! I did this same exact thing with the first "new style" ink pad I purchased and it was the waterproof black! It took forever for all the black stains to wear off of my fingers, too! I don't have any trouble with them anymore, you will get use to them!
Not a moron at all! That's one of the things I LOVED about the 1st demo I had (miss you Susan); she was so good at teaching EVERYTHING, not just techniqes but the little how-tos that we all need as beginners; do you have a demo close by? I'm sure she can help you out!

Oh Jess....there was a rumor going around that I had to get stiches in my finger because of one of those pads....
Ok, it wasn't a rumor...it was true. :P You know....just so you know you're not the only one....just don't catch your finger hard enough to bust it open...trust me....they'll laugh at you in the doctors office. ;)
You'll get better at it, I promise. It just takes getting used to. You'll also get better at putting them back together after half of it goes sailing across the room. Sigh.

Jessica, you actually had to get stitches? Do you still use those inkpads, or has the doctor warned against it? Heehee. Maybe SU should put a warning label on the pads. My heat gun is less dangerous.
Kathyc, the thing is, as of tomorrow I will BE a demo! LOL. So I really need to get this figured out. I'll have to share my story with my upline.
I must be a moron too, cause the first time I used an SU inkpad (4 years ago) I sliced my thumb opening it. Now I have no problem with them......and still can't figure out how I cut it the first time, but I always give a warning to my first time customers to watch their fingers
I love this thread...my first new style pad I did the same thing, couldn't figure how to get it open but did get it snapped apart. I finally had to call a friend who talked me through it but I had ink everywhere, even on my clothes where I had dropped the pad twice. BUT, just yesterday I somehow had one that stuck and it snapped apart and again I fiddled with it for ten minutes before I got it together and ended up with ink all over again and smeared on the inkpad case. I'm afraid I'd still rather have the old style pads! I really hate these!

Doh! Wow, between you and Jessica, I should consider myself lucky. I think tonight I'll "prime" my pad while watching tv. It's Certainly Celery, my favorite color, so that pad has to be in good working condition. This is just too funny! :mrgreen:
I did the same thing - at my cousin's house - who is also my SU demonstrator - AT A CLASS...not only did I "break" her pad, it flung back on me (wearing a white shirt) and I had black ink all over myself. Needless to say, the pad wasn't broke and the craft ink came out in the wash!
Yeah...I still use them....but she laughed at me alot and wanted to see the stamp pad, then accidently snapped her own finger in it when she tried to close it. So she knows I'm not full of it! ;)
There is a very simple way to pop those lids back on. Grab another similiar ink pad to make sure you have the right ends lined up. Then place the lid on top(right side up) and just snap it back into place. It's quick and easy and you wont get your fingers all inked up!

I've done the same thing, and I've also fixed customers' pads for them when they bring them to me in a inky Ziploc baggie in two pieces... LOL
They're just tight when they're new, and they get better with use. And keep the Mist on hand to clean up after the amazing flying ink pad!

The 1st time I did that I tried for 20 minutes to get it back together ~ didn't get it. LOL. Hand it to my engineer DH who snaps it back together in like 2 seconds. Boy was I mad, not sure at who though.;) They do slide better over time.

It happened to me ... fortunately, I look really good in Pink Passion :rolleyes: And it took forever to get it put back together ... I was ready to hand back my engineering degree!!
But, I've gotten better - and only have the pads fall apart when I'm stamping mad, and use a bit more force than I should to open them!
LOL - I did the same thing - with one exception. I called my sister to see if she could tell me how to get it back together, getting ink all over my white phone. And, before she got on the line I somehow got it back together.

Funny you should say something about this too. I was at my girlfriends house the other night and I was helping her finish up some cards. She gave me one of the SU ink pads. and It took me some time to open...And I stated it was a good thing I wasn't demo doing demo on how to open the inks pads.
Cause I can't do it right...It feel awkward to me. I got ink all over my fingers. I also pinched myself with it. I would get it closed and she would tell me to ink the stamp again. And I would repeat the whole process again.
But this is what I get for not owning any SU stamp pads.
Well, I feel better now. Had that happen to me Thankfully, my DH is great about putting everything I think I've broken back together again. He has much more patience than I do!

This is totally me! The very first time this happened to me, I was so glad I'd purchased two ink pads because I would've been totally lost without another pad to compare it to to get it back together again. There are still ink smudges all over the outside of that pad from where I tried to to get it back together again.

Oh, boy, I am just laughing reading through this thread! You ladies are so funny in your story telling. Yes, I think the majority have had this nightmarish experience of the 'sailing-through-the-air' inkpad. Thank you, kathleenh for giving some instruction. I gave up in frustration and had my husband work on it for 20 minutes (twice now!), who eventually overpowered the stubborn thing. One thing I have learned is to hold my left hand in the back of the inkpad when I'm opening it so when I'm feeling particularly brutish in strength, the lid doesn't go flying off.
LOL! I love this thread! I have one pad that gets stuck and comes apart. Thankfully, it's a color I don't use much. I can't even remember which one! Which means it's in the BB color family. Maybe it's glorious green. Hmmm.
I'm with you Charlene... I'm in the office and it is very quiet right now... except for me of course!!! I'm practically in tears laughing at this thread.... My stomach is hurting and I keep getting the eye from passer bys.... I feel your pain ladies... "The Pad" is certainly a challenge sometimes, but I have to honestly say... it had never happened to me before until just recently...after many years of owning these wonderful pads... One finally jumped it's track and fortunately landed on my working table in front of 13 ladies.... THAT WAS NOT FUN! The good thing out of it was.... I was able to quckly show them how to put it back in.... tilt it to the side and slide in nice and easy.. no pinching or inking or cutting of any kind...
I'll post some pictures... maybe that'll help. they all got a kick out of it and didn't even think about it twice.

Hey Sandra, maybe you should write a tutorial, with pictures, on how to put the pad back together. Beate could post it in the Weekly Inkling! LOL! I know that if my pad pops apart again, I probably won't remember how I fixed it the last time. :rolleyes:
Ummm, I like the idea and will post some pictures for those who are being dominated by the horrendous beast ...LOL... I'll ask Beate to post too!!..I'm going to attach a step by step word doc... get ready here it comes.:mrgreen:
I love the way that the stamp pad cases are made. There is a slight learning curve and first time use goes much easier if your demo will show you how to open and close it. I was confused by it the first time I tried to open one but like someone mentioned about, "It is just like riding a bike, once you learn how to open/close it, you never forget."
My favorite thing about the SU! pad case is that I do not have to look for the lid. It is comforting to always know where it is. Loose lids tend to totally disappear while I am busy stamping. Although I know that I just had it and I have not moved from the spot I am in, it has somehow slipped away. Having the SU! lid attached gives me lots more time to play. (and makes me feel better mentally)
So very funny. At the first SU! event I went to, a stamp camp, we made 10 cards. At each station, we had to open and close our ink pads. It was utterly embarrassing. I couldn't figure it out at all. I flung them, I dropped them, I pinched my finger, I got ink all over the hall's tables. My demo was a good friend, and just kept laughing and announcing each mistake.
It didn't deter me. I was hooked and put ink pads on my order. The next time I stamped, my sister and nephews were also stamping. I
"broke" the pad and spent at least 30 minutes trying to figure it out. The oldest nephew (age 7 at the time) came in from playing outside, said, "Auntie, I can help you with that.", took it from my hands and fixed it immediately. My sister and I laughed so hard we cried. I was shown up by a kid!
Now, I forget how hard they can be (until a friend new to stamping tries them out).
Well, count me in on those that spent at least 20 minutes trying to get a lid back on. I think of the problem is that I'm afraid I'm going to break off a little piece in the process of fixing it. I also get out another pad to assist me.
Now, I almost can't wait for one to break so that I can try this last page of your tutorial!
I've done it too. It was a borrowed stamp pad and I was FREAKING out!! I thought I was going to have to replace it. I figured out how to put it back together after about 20 min. but the pad was a MESS as were my ink stained fingers!! Took me forever to get it to look clean as new. When I told my sister what happened when I returned her pad she laughed for 10 minutes and said it happens to her ALL the time!!!! LOL
