Default Stamping on wood ?

A friend wants to know if you can stamp on wood. If so, what do you use? StazON? Anyone out there ever done this?

If the wood hasn't been sealed, it 's a porous surface. so either crafter type inks or permanent dye inks work (both types require heat setting for permanancy). If it's sealed, use an ink suitable for non-porous surfaces (most permament dye inks that require heat setting or alcohol-based inks).

Brilliance ink works great, I use it on my stamp trays:

I would recommend sealing the wood (if it is not sealed already), and then using StazOn or Pallette inks.

Here is a link to some ornaments i stamped on wood.

I used a soft pine I cut with a scroll saw and sealed it with Apple Barrel Pickling Gel off white. You can use any watered down acrylic to seal the wood, just lightly paint it with one layer. I used black colorbox to stamp on the wood and painted the image with watered down acrylic paints. Its lots of fun. You can get cute little wooden boxes to stamp at the dollar store...and plaques too! One other way to seal is just to varnish and then you can stamp with Stazon, which dries really fast! One important tip is to use DEEP etched rubber stamps, especially if you have any kind of "texture" left on the wood.

I think each acrylic paint companies (DecoArt, Delta, Plaid, SoJonas, etc.) has a wood sealer. A sealer prevents tanins from leaching through the paint and staining it, in addtion to not raising the grain of the wood. Most sealers do not dry glossy, so any permanent ink can be used. Pigment inks also can be used, but they must be thermal embossed and varnished for permanancy.

Here's the description of DecoArt's sealer:
http://www.decoart.com/cgi-bin/Products.cgi?Wood_Sealer

You'll notice it's not limited to wood..handy supply to have in your stash.

I used Palette inks on wood, and it turned out fine. But I had also painted over the wood first with acrylic paints.
