Default Stampin Pastels vs Watercolor pencils

Since the pencils are limited in color, can I get the same results by using the stampin pastels and the aquapainter or are the pastels NOT for watercoloring? Am confused. Too many choices!!!

You can use the blender pens with the stampin' pastels - I have done this and been very happy with the results. You only want to touch ONE CORNER of your chalk with the blender pen, and have that corner be designated the "wet" corner. If you get the entire chalk wet, it will no longer have the "chalky" quality. I would recommend NOT using the aquapainter with the pastels, as they have MUCH more water in them and you are less able to control the water flow and therefore may end up with water all over your chalk. Good luck with trying it out!

Oh, my poor brain!!! I WANT TO WATERCOLOR!!!. First I thought Prismacolor was the way to go and got all excited about the rebates and free shipping and such. Then thought SU watercolor pencils would be way to go but they don't come in very many colors. Then I thought the pastels would be the way to go but now doesn't sound like it. WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO?????

Default I like having both...

Well, I like having both the pastels and watercolor pencils because of different reasons. I like the pastels because they come in all 48 colors, and they have a soft, chalky look when colored dry or with blender pens. And of course, poppin' pastels is another great technique for those. BUT, I LOVE the watercolor pencils because you can use them dry as colored pencils or with the aqua painter or blender pens or brush. The aqua painter is my favorite way to use them. Pastels don't give the same watercolor type look, which I am in love with right now. So if I had to choose one or the other right now, I would choose the pencils. It's true that they don't come in all the colors, but you can really vary the look by coloring with lighter or heavier pressure with the pencil, OR by mixing the colors together.
That's my .02! :P

If you want to watercolor and you don't want to invest in all the ink pads, either buy the markers or the Stampin' Spots. Then you can use an old cd and apply ink to it (either scribble or pat the ink pad directly onto it) and pick up your color from there. Or, if you have the ink pads, just squeeze to get a little color in the lid and then pick it up from there!

HTH!

I will be of no help to you because I would tell you to get them all! I would say though, I use my watercolor pencils and ink to watercolor a lot more than my pastels.

Have you tried coloring with your ink pads and a blender pen? Just press on your ink pad case before you open it. It leaves ink on the inside of the lid and you can then use that ink with the blender pen to color. Works best with the old pads, I'm not sure how easy it is to do with the new SU! pads since the lid is actually under your pad when it's open.

The new ink pads work just as easily as the old pads to make a well of ink on the lid. I would agree with all the others, I would say get both the pastels and the watercolor pencils.
