Looking at some of the galleries with 10+ pages of pages full of cards I start feeling really bad. I honestly believe I am the slowest stamper out there. I usually need 2+ hours for a new card, and once I copy that card I still need about 30 minutes. A while ago I got me the "Take 10" issue where only cards were featured that take about 10 mintes or less....are you kidding!?! It takes me at least 25 minutes just to get my stamping stuff out and warm myself up!! To make it worse I can get very picky with my cards, so if something is not aligned right.....
My first time I started to stamp, I was at a stamp camp and it took me 3 hours to make 3 cards, and I was so exhausted I went home and took a 2 hour nap! It just WORE ME OUT! I find it kind of cute now, cause now I can make cards pretty fast... This first stamp experience was 4 years ago! So it does take time.
I feel the same way, too! But the thing is, you ARE stamping something. Make a few, keep one and send the rest. You'll feel great that you cheered someone up.
Oh, Maggiemoo, don't despair... that title actually belongs to me!! World's Slowest Stamper!
But, you know, I quit letting it bother me and now I just enjoy the process... which may be why it takes me so long, who knows!! But what fun I'm having while I'm sorting, arranging, gathering, cutting, inking, dismissing, starting over... you get the picture. And yes, even when I copy a card design (which I do a lot!), it seems to take me forever!! But hey, so what?!!
The only thing that really bothers me about it is that I don't seem to have time to copy EVERYTHING!!! Hehe
So, just relax and enjoy yourself!!
Smiles,
Julia

If there was a support group for slow stampers, I'd join. I've had an accordion card in progress on my desk for 4 days - and I'm pretty sure I've put at least 3 hours actual work into it, with that much more to go! It seems very strange that I like doing this so much... :? but I do! Just can't get enough. Don't feel bad, you've got plenty of company!

I am totally in the same boat! It seems to take me forever to get cards done, and there are so many cards that I would like to do, but never have the time.

Oh my gosh! This just cracked me up!! Made me remember when I started stamping - loved it, but had absolutely no idea how to do it without being at a stamp camp or workshop. LOL! And after several years, I can still sit and putter for hours on just one card!
So, two things, Maggiemoo: 1) be patient with yourself cause it does take time to get comfortable learning new things, and 2) ENJOY the ride! If you are like me, this is what you do for fun and oh yeah, you just happen to have something useful when you're done.
happy stampin'

I'm doin' better now, but try making a card while sitting on one hand. After my stroke, it took me three days to make one Thank you card. Now my hand is working better, I might be able to do one in a couple of hours.
OOh, but it's the BEST therapy!

What a relief to know there are others out there! I'm getting a little faster with practice, but a 10-minute card?!! Please, it takes me that long to figure out how to CASE a card, let alone get everything out and begin to stamp.
I agree with the other ladies--let's just enjoy it!

Well, I am glad I am not the only slow one out there
The thing is I used to be pretty fast when I started stamping 2 years ago. I think my problem is that I have way too much stuff now, meaning I have too many alternatives and I have always been bad making quick decisions... And it doesn't help looking at all those pretty cards on SCS, because I cannot decide which card to CASE first....
I'm really really slow at stamping. I think most of the time I sit and think about what I'm going to do. Also, now that I've been stamping almost 2 years I feel like I can't do the quick simple cards anymore...that they have to be more involved.
My family was scattered to the four winds last night - put my son on a plane to go back to college so I tried drowning my sorrows in ink pads. It took me 3 hours to make 4 cards (almost finished the 4th). Of course, I was watching taped Law and Order episodes at the same time! But boy did I enjoy my evening! I miss my son though; won't see him again until May.
So I look at it this way - Chocolate: $2.00 a bag. Stamps/accessories: who's counting? Enjoyment: Priceless!
At least you just stamp slow. I am the most unorigional stamper ever. I always just copy other people's work...which is why I never post anything...and why I love this site.
Your post was truly "refreshing". I understand "definitely" the way you do about being so slow. I have a beautiful two year old baby that keeps me on my toes all day long; and lots of house chores to do of course. So if you ask me how long does it take me a card? I can honestly say "well when it comes to "stamping" I'm a little slow! The funny thing too is that I joined SU to make my own cards but I hardly get the chance to do so. I'm always helping out my customers, and when I do get a chance to work on my own it really does take me a long time to just come up with my own!
It feels good to know that it gets better in the long run. We'll create masterpieces later on, yipeee!!!!
I don't think it matters at all, as long as you enjoy it!
For me, the slow part is deciding what to do! When I'm making a birthday card for a special friend, I might stand for a long time in front of my sets, trying to decide which one is best for them. Or I'll pull out half a dozen and sit and look some more!!! I thought I was pitiable.
But a ten minute card? Not for me!!!!
Isn't it nice to know you're not alone??

You arn't the only one and I ain't a new stamper - It takes me all night to make a couple cards but I put alot into them. I don't do just the simple 10 minute cards. Sometimes I feel brain dead when I sit down to make something and can't think of anything to do tho LOL
Teehee! I'm pretty sure there are some really speedy stampers out there--I'm not one of them! There are times when I need a card in a hurry and that would be one of my 1 hr cards. But, I've never understood why anyone would want to hurry up, make a card and get it over with. After all, we do this for fun, don't we? We sure as heck don't do it to save money! I DO understand that there are a million cards ideas I'd like to try, though, and at the rate I'm going...well, you know how it is!

Well said, Leslie! See my arm waving?! (Although I will admit to having days where I could use a quicker pace!)

10 minute card? Is that a myth? Ya know...like Bigfoot or something??? The important thing in stamping, seriously, is that you enjoy what you are doing and that, if you are making something for someone else, you do your best to bring someone joy!

Thank you Stamping Teacher! It's part of a shirt I made for my hubby in 2001. Back then we didn't have a dog (so I put a fictional one in the center as my goal for 2002). The funny/weird thing is that I got my dog Maggie in 01/2003 and she not only looks exactly like the one in the pic (she's just black, Chihuahua-Dachshund-Mix), but the dog cartoon is from the Simpsons (Maggie-Simpson...get it?!?). How weird is that?
it's great to have things to CASE! Takes less time and spurs on new ideas. I'd love to become a demo, but my kids have more ideas than me and they're never home
another thought!!! Maybe we spend too much time dreaming and browsing these websites and not enough time dragging out our stamps and actually stamping! Just a thought...
Oh boy, I'm a ridiculously slow stamper & I hate that I'm still like that! I've been stamping/scrapbooking for a few years now & actually think I get slower & slower w/each project! But, I have noticed that once you do a project for the first time (ex. covered notebook) the second one goes quicker & so on. I'm a perfectionist & that's my biggest problem! Thank goodness for this site otherwise it would literally take me a month to make a card that I actually designed myself!
Tammy, I feel your pain. I have a daughter in college and a son who's out of college but living far away from me. It is so hard when I give them that final kiss goodbye before they leave! It gets easier but not much!
I live in New Orleans and when my son went away to college 5 years ago in Chicago, I thought I would flood the airport with my crying. Every time I see him, I shed a few tears. My daughter is only two hours away so it's not quite as bad - I get to see her much more often.
Isn't it funny - we raise our kids to be independent and happy but when they leave it hurts like crazy!!
