Default Rock salt/salt wash background

Could someone please help me with directions to this? My hostess for this week has asked to do it and I've not seen it done.

What kind of paper and ink and salt do you use?

Thanks!

I *think* you need to use regular matte cardstock. I tried it on glossy and when you mist the paper the ink makes spots already without the salt so I'm guessing just regular paper.

I think any type of salt will work but the bigger rock salt is better. I bought the salt that says kosher on it I think. It's about pretzel salt size?

I haven't really played around with this much but this is the little that I've found out.

This is what I have figured out.

Spray matte cardstock very well with water. Brayer over really good with inked up brayer (color or spectrum) of your choice. Pour rock salt all over cardstock and spray again...let dry THEN brush off rock salt.

I didn't wet my cardstock before brayering but it should work that way too. I just brayered the CS, applied the salt. Sprayed with water, let dry and brushed off the salt.

After that I like to take a darker color of ink (paint) and flick it onto the cardstock with a toothbrush. I've got a couple of samples in my other gallery which I did that.

Here's one on glossy using NO salt:

I have one on my stamping desk done on matte cardstock & using salt. It's not finished yet but I'll get it uploaded so you can see the difference on all the cards.

Default salt and water spray

I love this technique- recently did a test, and found SU paper far superior when doing the technique as described above- it gives greater depth to the paper. My sample is with salt- I used sea salt.

here is another card where you can really see the difference in the CS used:

The blue is SU US white, the pink is Georgia Pacific from Wallmart- which I do sometimes use- it is nice- just get better results with the SU paper.

Good Luck!

Default Okay...here is my method....

I brayer an entire sheet of glossy c/s with my chosen color...bear in mind that this technique will lighten whichever color you choose, so apply very heavily! Once the color is on, I will heavily mist the c/s with water, then apply a thick layer of Kosher Salt. Yes, there will be water droplet marks, but that is part of the appeal of this technique. Once the salt is totally dried, brush it off into a garbage pail or the sink. Voila! Very fun technique. Kinda messy - I like to do it outside in the summertime..... ~ K
